Cedar Froststar
Sorcerer - Silverthorn

Beautiful, mysterious, and powerful. Very short but surprisingly strong. Greedy and slightly entitled. Uses powerful illusions and glamors to get what she wants. Often wears a very subtle white and grey or white and brown illusion to hide her brilliant colors. Has made the decision that her family cannot forever stay in the shadows and doesn't care if they protest.

Raised by her mother in a small, very southern tribal village, Cedar was haughty from the start. She grew up boating among the floes and even once dove in one of their incredible water bells to see the deep water reefs, but the white world of the far south was no place for her talents. She grew restless in her life. From a young age she pestered her mother, begged to know about the identity of her father, but the woman was unmoved. Timber worked as a maid for an old castle tower and secretly arranged for Cedar to learn from the master sorcerer from a young age. As a natural born Primal, Cedar soon outstripped him. Her Shadow magic could manifest in near liquid form, seeping between cracks to uncover all secrets. This greatly disturbed the master.

On a dark night, Cedar stole a book from his library the fae had been commanded not to enter and read it under shadelight. It shocked her. The book was titled "The Queen and The Stone" and she had thought it simply to be another magical text... she was wrong. Contained within was the history of the kingdom of Algidir. Its first Queen, Timber Froststar! And she had a sister once, the rebellious Princess Evergreen? Horror filled her as she realized she had been lied to. Of course she wanted better! She was rightfully royal! But no matter how deep she looked into the pages there were no answers as to her father. Timber had been said to have wed someone before she took up arms to rule, but he had no name. The horror turned to fury.

The daughter left the book beside her sleeping mother. Of course, the master might assume Timber had stolen the tome, but Cedar no longer cared. She would find answers!

The Froststar

The Halls of the Councilors had emptied of the daytime crowds. Only a few stragglers lingered here and there, speaking quietly among themselves or to their representatives, browsing the records that stretched to the ceiling. The Capital was full of tourists and traders this time of the year, many of whom would beg audience to petition for aid, favor, or just to see one of the royals. Owain had managed to only speak to twelve such visitors today. He gathered his scrolls into their case and stood from his bench with a deep sigh. Home awaited, and with it his mother. Anything to avoid that conversation.

Then he saw it. A figure in white was walking into the Halls, layers of fur cascading around them. Instantly their clothes identified them as a member of the southernmost tribes. They seemed tiny, dwarfed underneath a wolf fur so large a dragonforme could wear it. It trailed behind them like a cloak as they strode forward. Bare feet slapped along the floor in a purposeful manner. Slowly the gathered turned towards the stranger, a hush falling among them at the spectacle. Owain stared in wonder as the figure stopped in front of him.

Delicate hands reached up and pulled back the hood. Audible gasps echoed around the Halls. For a moment, it was as though a statue of Queen Timber had come to life. Wicked eyebrows, full lips, and carved cheekbones, yes, but black eyes with the stains of ichor permanently etched upon her face. A shadow primal, here? Her resemblance to the old images of the first queen of Algidir was shocking, true, but the queen had been an Ice dragon born long before the Bounty of Elements had changed the nature of magic. It was impossible, and thus he dismissed it.

"May I help you?" Owain said, managing to keep his voice level. "I certainly hope so." She quipped at him. Her accent was Algidirian, in the very least. Almost thicker, like the tribes of the Hollow Hands. "You must help me find my father." At that he stood up straighter. "What help can I give you?"

After the halls had completely emptied she told him her story, though it was unbelievable. Supposedly Timber had not been killed in the eruption of the Great Flame. Supposedly she lived even now due to some horrible magic placed upon her and her children by the seer Dreamer. He had wanted so badly to dismiss her, but... he could not shake the feeling she was telling the truth. He recalled that many years ago a search party had come across a dragon who claimed to be Evergreen Froststar. He had read the handwritten account in one of Saturn's histories. The strange mirror had returned to them a lost hatchling and hosted the team for the night. When asked why she was not dead, she had replied, "We cannot. I don't know why." The sketch of the woman in the book looked like a more angular version of the woman who sat so defensively near the fire, arms crossed and shoulders raised. Her name fit the story as well. Timber, Evergreen, Cedar... But the most shocking moment was her claim that Timber had mothered her with no mate. Owain had never heard of such a thing. Cedar was honest that neither had she until her mother confessed not only their identity but her lack of father to her.

He could see in the fae's eyes that she didn't like being lied to. True anger simmered in those dark pits and her hands would jerk out in sharp, cutting motions when she talked. Eventually, he gently placed his hand on hers. He half expected her to bite him, but instead she stopped and stared at him. "So, where do we start?" Her voice was thick, her accent heavy. "The founding. I must find who fathered Evergreen Peacekeeper."

The candles had burned low, and neither of them could properly light the crystal lamps, so they were huddled around the fireplace as they poured over stained texts. Cedar leaned across a cottonweave map far larger than herself, fingers trailing along the runes Dreamer herself had sewn along peaks of the southern coast. It was so old that it had many outdated updates, but these seemed original. "The Eagle's Eyes..." she murmured in alde cantarian. "What?" The young prince asked. She rolled her eyes a little. Of course he didn't know the language the Icewarden passed down. The prince was a shadowling, yes, but what use would a posh paperpusher have for the ancient lanuages? "This mountain range. What lies here?"

He sighed. "That's the Elder and the Younger, two small mountain ranges which weave together. They separate Hau'teldi and Hau'teldi Fel, two of our younger fiefdoms." She frowned. "And yet this is Dreamer's hand." The prince leaned in. "Much of the land was surveyed in the early days of the kingdom but we only built there recently. A castle guards the pass there now... two, actually. A pair of bird shaped towers. Held by Breaker, Lord of Ice." Cedar frowned but did not reply.

How can a modern castle be on an ancient map? Unless someone was lying. She did not know if it was Owain or the historian who kept the records. They continued the search for a short time but there wasn't much energy in it. Her mind made up, the fae made her excuses and packed up her things. As she was leaving, Owain called out. "I shall see you in the morning, yes?" Surprised, Cedar turned. "To continue the search!" A tiny nod she didn't mean and she scurried out the door.
