The old wound, the new scars, the red sky in the morning, the coastal warning. The thrown gauntlet and boots encrusted with sand. A wreath of ash and cherry wood, dim hallways, the guttural fire before the dungeon steps. The lance, the bloody bandages, the eyes that grin and the mouth that doesn’t. A grim mood, a war-mood, exposed teeth, punctured wings. The overhead moon, cleft in two, and a clever mind disposed for a bad time. | . |

The forgotten. The forbidden. The dangerous.
Alric has always been drawn to that which others find unsavoury. He was born to a clan of respected magicians, and spent his earliest days absorbing knowledge on the Starfall Isles. His thirst for knowledge can never be quenched, and he has never been one to pause his pursuit for reasons as unimportant as his own safety. His clan has never approved of his fascination with the forbidden. His family has always worried that one day, he would go too far. And one day, he did. It was never his intention to disturb an entity as powerful as he did. He was simply pursuing his knowledge, attempting spells long forgotten deep within the Starwood Strand one night. He did not intend to awaken something so powerful, something so dark. The consequences were not immediate. No, that would be far too easy. It was a slow process, and as his family looked on, helpless to stop it, he changed. He mutated. He became disfigured, plates of bone eerily visible, feathers growing where they were never meant to grow. When his family learned the truth of what happened, they could not allow the rest of the clan to realize. They could not allow their reputation to be tainted with rumours of forbidden magic and dark creatures. They could not allow Alric to remain in the clan. They could not allow him to remain, so he left. He abandoned the only home he had ever known for their sake, and for his own. He left to continue his search, for his thirst for knowledge, for secrets, remained unquenched. For a short while, he traveled with a group of mercenaries, the type to blur the lines between good and evil, the type to exist within the grey area between right and wrong. They taught him to fight, and fight he did. Despite the fact that they did not reject him for his disfigurements and for his penchant for forbidden magic, he didn’t mesh well with the team, and they did not get along. Even before, back home with his clan, he was not the most sociable of dragons, and this became a point of conflict between him and the team. He stayed with them for some time, despite the tension between them, but it wasn’t long before he departed. Alric continued to seek knowledge alone. He became even more dangerous than he was already. He became deadly. Now, he works alone. He takes on jobs, adventures, quests. He accepts the jobs that pay the most, and does not concern himself with matters he doesn’t deem worth his time. He explores ruins. He raids dungeons. He takes what he needs, and he uncovers what secrets he can. Alongside his beloved Ashpine Widow, Boris, he fights. He fights for knowledge. He fights for money. He fights for himself, for the thrill of the adventure, for the adrenaline pumping along his bones as he attempts a spell that is just on the wrong side of safe. He can’t stop. He won’t stop. He will never stop |
