CHERIBAQEF

Cheribaqef is an Egyptian god of trees. His name means: He who is under the moringa (moringa peregrina) tree. Cheribaqef usually is depicted as a human or mummy, sometimes also as an ape, falcon- or ibis-headed man. He is said to be commissioned by Re to protect the dead. When Osiris was murdered he helped to keep his body parts together under the moringa tree and was therefore blessed by Osiris. Since this time he sits behind Osiris in the eighth hour of the night and welcomes him with behen oil.

Cheribaqef used to live alone at a rocked wadi in the eastern desert, sitting under his favourite moringa tree, playing the harp. But one day, when he was sitting there and watching the pretty, five petaled flowers of the tree, he recognized a body part nearby. It was a part of Osiris, his king. Cheribaqef was frightened and asked Re for help who answered him to help Osiris. So he started his journey until he met the mourning Isis nearby the nile. She was looking for the pieces of her husband and was grateful when he gave her back the missing body part. Because of his modest character he declined all offers of Isis and went back to his favourite tree.
Osiris, after being revitalized, heard of Cheribaqef helpful actions and decided, that he wants to offer him a place by his side. When Cheribaqef heard of this offer he went to the Duat, arguing that he can't leave the trees on earth for the nearby living cows like to eat their leaves. Osiris promised to bless the morinaga trees of Cheribaqef and to give him a herd of cows who will protect his trees when he is in the Duat in the eighth hour of the night. Cheribaqef agreed.
After some time Cheribaqef even extended his duties in the Duat when he met the birth and death goddess Mesechenet. He fell in love with her and started to learn how to perform the opening of the mouth ceremony to be near her more time of the day. He even extended Re's wish to protect the dead Osiris and is now protecting all dead, especially newborn children whom Mesechenet was not able to give a ka-soul.
