Rainier, like his mother, is incredibly sensitive to the supernatural. With his wings that glow with an ethereal light, he has long since moved far and spent most of his life alone. Though his Seals are strong, Rainier, being far too serious for his own good, keeps his guard up at all times. Not wanting anything to do with water and the like, Rainier has long since kept away from streams, lakes, and water in general. Thanks to his extensive knowledge in both physical and magical combat, Rainier dedicated his life to traveling across all of Sornieth, fighting any and all evil spirits that he comes across. This was before he got too close to the water.

After the Great Archive Fire took place rendering Beatrice, the original Protector of Temperance, completely blind, there was great discussion of who should next become a Major Protector of Light. Rainier did not even consider the possibility of being chosen, not at first. It wasn't until the whispers of the Shades' return that he strived to do something... more. Determined not to let demons, spirits, Shade, or whatever else frighten him off, Rainier did something he never would normally do; he walked right into the Counsel Hall where the six Major Protectors were trying to decide the next and proclaimed that he wanted to lead a group of Dragons against the Shade. The Major Protectors at first had mixed reactions at his intrusion, but finally Galiwyth, who was observing him silently, stood up from his seat and asked the Pearlcatcher if he would become the next Protector of Temperance. This took most of the other Major Protectors by surprise except for a few, and after some discussion it was agreed that he would become the Head of the Night Hunters, the group dedicated to finding, researching, and hunting the Shade.

Rainier was a wanderer. Spending his entire life away from others, the Pearlcatcher almost never interacted with other Dragons or other living things for longer than necessary. He's had three seals placed, in assurance that he was well protected from the supernatural and won't bring harm to others, but still Rainier wanders, never finding rest. Not being able to

Rainier absolutely hates thunderstorms, and it's only partly because of the water they bring from the sky. Whenever he hears thunder and sees lightning split the sky he's reminded of some of the more unpleasant, terrifying battles he's had against the Shade. So during thunderstorms he is exceptionally more on edge. He wouldn't admit this to any of his clanmates, however, because he doesn't want them to see him as weak, he needs to be a pillar for the clan.
