They find out that there's something wrong early on- he sits, only a few days old as his mother lays out her runes, and he stamps his feet impatiently. When she scries them, asking for a glimpse of his future, her features go cold. His father takes him aside- he does not know, not at the time, but his fate is already sealed. He was born without magic- a rare occurrence, a tragic one- and for it he would pay. He was still treated as the others, of course, his father still caring and proud as he taught the boy how to wield a sword, but his mother's eyes never truly lost the cold. He could certainly not do the Filthy One proud if there was nothing he could conjure, no rot to spin upon the land. However, instead of growing bitter or angry, he settled into an odd persona. He didn't really have the desire to prove himself, but he had the desire to live as any other might. It was simple, really. He asked his father for a weapon and was given a knife of bone, wrapped in gold and leather at the hilt; and he left. It didn't take long for him to find something to do- he would wrangle big game, chasing them and hunting them for sport, for the rich. Not that his prey was always animals; sometimes it was runaways, beastclans, none of it really matters to him. He is just here to live, after all, and that he lives is proof enough. It has to be.
