If anyone who had ever met her was asked to describe Alyssum in one word, it would simply be "sweet." She's quiet, choosing not to speak unless absolutely necessary, but very expressive. This isn't to say she is shy. While quiet, she's still very friendly, she just lacks the drive to go explore and make new friends that her adoptive mother Mica was born with. Alyssum would much rather stay home and tend to the familiars in the clan or the heardbeasts they keep for food and materials. 
On one of the many excursions out to scavenge, hunt, and collect, an abandoned Nature egg was found in the Everbloom Gardens. There was no clan nearby and it wasn't in a nest, so it was brought back to the Ilmarinens. Mica guessed accurately from its size that it was likely a Fae and took it as her own. It was nearly ready to hatch and soon Alyssum was born. She was adopted as Mica and Jude's first hatchling and is now a princess of the Ilmarinen Clan. Despite officially being recognized officially as a princess of the clan, it was always assumed that Mica and Jude would start their own biological family and an heir to the "throne" -- not that Mica or Jude assume any pompous airs -- would come from one of those nests. This is the way Alyssum wanted it since only a short time after her hatching. She does not feel any less of their child, but the role of leader was one that scared her. An entire clan's hopes, dreams, and safety would rest upon her shoulders and she did not want that responsibility. In Mica's first two eggs, an heir, Lennox, was born and any question about Alyssum's fate in the clan was settled. She grew skilled in Nature magic under Mica, Bult, and the late Piccolo's tutelage, and used her connection to the earth to become the clan's Master Beastwarden. It was a responsibility she was far better suited for and a job she was thrilled to take on.
