Niles

Niles is an retainer to the younger brother of the Nohrian Nobles, Leo. He protects the prince alongside a dark mage, Odin.

Niles had a cruel history; being abandoned by his parents as a child and being taken in by a band of thieves. These thieves soon became his new family, and he had to steal and kill to stay alive on the streets of Nohr. One night, his family came up with a plan to rob the royal palace. They snuck in, however were quickly found out. Niles was stuck, and his family left him at the first sign of trouble. He was caught by the young prince Leo.

Niles, broken and defeated, begged the prince to execute him. However, Leo did not follow through, and instead requested that Niles become his retainer- a guardian for a royal.

Today, Niles enjoys teasing others with double entendres. He says that the reason he talks rather lewd is because he uses it as means to make friends; those worth befriending would stick around despite his vocabulary. He is also sadistic and cruel, finding great pleasure in people's suffering. He reveals that this comes from his hatred towards people who had gifted lives- they didn't have to work to stay alive or happy. Mingled within this bitterness that Niles bears is a mixture of pain and sadness that all point towards his troubled past; he responds very badly to abandonment, and is tormented by severe nightmares that are closely associated with his past as a fugitive.

Niles' eyepatch apparently covers a completely empty eye socket. He lost his eye as a child, at the hands of another criminal.
