VALENCIA
the eccentric matriarch

Valencia can't remember much before she met Beo. In fact, she can't remember anything at all. She lost any memory she had before that day; whether it was because of her actions or another's remains unknown. The Mirror dragoness wandered the landscape in search of answers, lost and alone, until she came upon a Guardian male. He seemed friendly enough, and she approached him eagerly in hopes of finding some answers. But as she did, she realized that he was cowering away from an angry Basilisk from the neighboring plaguelands. Without thought she jumped to his rescue, and was on the receiving end of a blow from its plague-ridden claws. Valencia was knocked unconscious, and awoke at dusk next to the strange Guardian, who had worked up the courage to fight off the Basilisk and then tended to her mangled shoulders and front limbs. He was young and she was crippled, so they decided it was best if they travel together, wherever they might be going. He was there with her as she learned to support herself without her front limbs as they healed, and she became his charge that he dutifully guarded. Eventually they arrived at the Tycho's Peak, and decided it was time to settle down and begin a clan.

Eccentric and unruly, Valencia is a bit obsessive and is very persistent in her interests. She jumps head-first into anything she loves, and sees anything or anyone trying to tell her it might not be the best idea as some kind of an obstacle (much to Beo’s dismay). Because her default obsession is with the Arcanist and his ideals, she may be seen as cold and apathetic towards others’ emotions when she exalts all of her children or tells someone off for not studying or learning. In truth, she is so blinded by her faith that she thinks she is helping. If her Clan is full of scholars, then maybe the Arcanist will bless them with good fortune and they can live happily together. She loves her hatchlings dearly, and sees their exaltations as an opportunity to do what she always wanted to – serve directly under her deity. Revoking her son Nero’s permission to serve the Arcanist was the worst punishment she could possibly bestow, in her mind (and in his). The only reason she has not gone to serve Him is because of memory issues brought on by whatever caused her amnesia. Valencia is ashamed of the fact that she spends as much time reading new scrolls as she does re-reading old ones. The information simply won’t stick. She raises her offspring to be exemplary scholars, because Valencia feels that, until she revives her memory, she will never be good enough for her Glorious Arcanist.

Valencia is the Tycho's Peak Clan matriarch. The Mirror dragoness makes all final decisions, though she nearly always consults Beo and their deputy, Vesuvius. She keeps her feeble front limbs bound in leather to protect them and so she can walk on them, as the blow from the Basilisk damaged them permanently and made them fairly weak. An avid scholar, she feeds her natural Arcane curiosity by constantly studying, and has accumulated an impressive pile of scrolls in a separate branch of the main Clan cave. She loves the stars and physical sciences as much as any other Arcane dragon, but prefers more abstract forms of thought like philosophy and the effects of dreams. Valencia's Familiar, a Fallout Streak named Oracle, runs errands for her, allowing her to exchange scientific journals with other Arcane dragons as well as with the Observatory. She is currently researching ways to recover from her amnesia, primarily by using her dreams and earliest memories.
