S P I C E
Artist

"The sensitive artist knows that a bitter wind is blowing."

Spice’s deep red wings and glittery orange stomach often lead dragons in various clans into believing she was born straight from the sun. Which, as she will tell you with a wry smile whenever she’s asked, is practically completely true! The egg she came from, a normal wind egg when it was laid once upon a time ago, was blessed by the rays of one of Sornieth’s sunsets not minutes after the egg had come out. The softened light mutated the shell and it radiated orange and red light until the day she hatched. But her true blessing lay not in her colors, but her abilities.

She is able to take items from everyday life and use them in paintings to weave stories. It works well because her ‘paint’ comes from dabbing her paintbrush onto the item she wants the color of. For instance, she can paint a sunset so realistic that it looks like a photograph. And, in true wind fashion where each moment is fleeting and everyone moves onto the next place, her paintings never last past midnight, the paint melting off the canvas before disappearing completely.

A little proud of her powers and her origin, Spice can come off as a little full of herself. She knows what she can do is amazing and feels no need to downplay anything. If anything, she’ll talk herself up. When meeting someone she hasn’t seen before or hasn’t in a long time, she spends at least part of the conversation trying to get them to either watch her paint or let her paint them. Occasionally she’ll criticize her conversation partner’s outfit for clashing or being ‘unnatural’. She refuses to speak to those whose clothes are completely unmatching. But, if one can get past that, she’s also very friendly. Beastclan, dragon, or something else, she only sees works of art before her, studying all that stand before her so she may paint them when she has a chance. In fact, one of her favorite things in finding those who either don’t believe they’re beautiful at all or have trouble seeing it some days and painting something stunning for them, so they can see their own qualities.

While Spice is sure to have friends, fans, and admirers because of her ability to see beauty in all, she’s also liable to have people that are jealous of her talents or who think, perhaps only slightly incorrectly, she’s a stuck up jerk. She doesn’t care. In fact, she cares so little about those who don’t like her and their opinions, that it feels like her enemies are barely talked about.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Spice has an admittedly strange best friend goal. One day, she’d like to meet and befriend a vampire, without being one of course since she needs the sun to thrive, and be able to paint portrait after portrait for them of them so that they can finally see themselves. She thinks it would be nice opposition, a creature that that can’t see the sun or themselves and a creature that was born from the sun and sees everyone being the best of friends. Of course, she’s mostly resigned herself to disappointment with this not happening, but she’d like to dream.

In order to make money for the clan, Spice sells seats to watch her paint or, for a more heftier price, to be painted. Her favorite of these was one that was dragon that asked to be the canvas instead of the model, and had her paint portraits of their sickly mate all over their body. It was a touching tribute, and the dragon had brought in a sizeable amount of treasure. On top of that, live canvases are the most fun, since the texture is different from traditional ones. Also dragons trying to hold in giggles from the brush tickling them or wiggles from the discomfort of the cold water dripping onto their body is the funniest thing in the world. And what would art be if it were lifeless and boring?

A disgrace to her very being, that’s what.

When not painting or bothering others, however, Spice makes a good designer, as she knows what colors work well together and none of her designs can be copied by other designers when she uses her paintbrush. Usually her themes are all nature based. Specifically, fashion shows are based around the sun. She puts sundials on dresses. Dyes the models’ highlights in red orange. Makes stunning gowns in the purple blue of the sky when the sun is almost set. Once, she did something galaxy themed just to spice things up, but she made all the models’ hair glow like the sun and got rocks to orbit around their heads. It was interesting and made headlines, but she went back to her usual style. No one complains or questions it, anyway. It’s just another one of her quirks.

It definitely isn’t a sign that she longs to return to the sun. That her being literally cries out to be near where the sun is. She simply is living up to her wind nature of being free to travel. Her restlessness is typical spiral energy.

Maybe one day someone will find her flying on a trip like Icarus, too doomed and too close to the sun. Maybe one day she’ll melt into paint and simply disappear. Maybe all will be fine.

But maybe there will be clouds to cover the sun.
