Gators
Despite the typical vegetarian nature of the snapper, Gator snappers are hunters, and live off a diet of meat as opposed to plants, in addition to seafood. Their jaws are extremely tough, and are their primary mechanism for attack - when a Gator bites down, nothing can make them let go until they feel like letting go!
There are two variations of Gators, with one variation preferring fresh water, and thus tending to stay in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and the other preferring the salty oceans surrounding the other regions of Sornieth. While tough to spot the differences between the two variations initially, a close eye will reveal many small changes. The freshwater species' jaws are wider and designed more towards cracking open the shells of their primary meal, turtles and other hard-shelled invertebrates, whereas the saltwater gators' jaws are more pointed, which are generally better suited towards a wide variety of prey. While both are covered in tough skin that is made up of square, tile-like scales, the saltwater variant also has small hair particles near the edge of each scale, which allow it to detect the change in water pressure easily and have an easier time locating their prey - this certainly makes the saltwater variant unparalleled when it comes to fishing and hunting for their clan, if they choose to live with one.
Behavior wise, freshwater Gators are often much more docile and relaxed in comparison to their temperamental saltwater cousins. Both variants, however, tend to keep to themselves, even if in a clan, and only appreciate the comfort of dragons they can completely trust.
