Biography

Opal
|| Nacrean Scald || Shadow Puppeteer ||
The brightest flame casts the darkest shadow.
― George R.R. Martin, A Clash of Kings

Unlike most of her fellow Scalds who find immense enjoyment in performing in front of a great crowd, Opal suffers from a terrible case of stage fright. This caused her great grief in her youth as she always stuttered, tended to panic and forget what she wished to say whenever she needed to tell her story in front of her fellow students. As an odd sheep of the group she was on the receiving end of more then a few pranks, which caused her to become even more shy and withdrawn, making the entire problem even worse. Her greatest fear in those years was that she would not be able to earn her adult name as the mere idea of having to perform in front of group of strangers terrified her.

Fortunately, she had a kind and understanding mentor who recognized her talent as the stories she created were truly a thing of beauty and encouraged her to find other ways of conveying them to her fellows. After much thought, she decided to try her hand in an art-form, rarely used by any Nacrean - shadow puppetry. This proved to be the right decision as she had not only found creating puppets for her plays to be extremely fun and fulfilling, but that by working behind the screen her fear of crowds was all but gone and therefore perfectly manageable.

Thus, her story had a happy ending as she not only earned her name, but also leads her own class of students who seek to learn from her in order to make their storytelling even more unique and inspiring. It's not rare that her mate seeks her aid in setting stages for his plays as her eye for detail and lighting is without equal.
