Shimmer's first home was a lair within the Starwood Strand, and this is where she believes she developed her perception of beauty. It could be a dangerous thing, as her clanmates warned her, but an infinite, glistening paradise of blossoming startrees- and the natural pink of the Arcane- surely, this was the meaning of life?
...Not many were inclined to agree, and she began to feel silly for suggesting it in the first place. Amazing sights may not have turned out to be everything, but they still felt important to Shimmer and, rethinking, she believed they were connected to her purpose. Just as she was wondering about what this 'purpose' could possibly be, she met an Imperial named Glitterdust who was lamenting over her failures in stardom. Lightning dragon as she was, being unable to achieve her goals had been a huge blow to her self-confidence, (which Shimmer later found to be one of Glitterdust's strongest assets,) and she too was wondering about her true purpose.
Despite the natural stigma between Imperials and Pearlcatchers, Shimmer comforted her, and suggested they travel together in order to discover their purpose. Shimmer often folded ribbons when musing in her spare time, so she collected her chestful and proposed they create and sell them in order to make a living. Glitterdust approved and, full of resolve, the two began their long journey.
After crossing the entirety of the northern area of Sornieth, they dragged themselves down to the Ashfall Waste where Caramelloni's lair was only just beginning- a small, hollowed out rock- and Shimmer was instantly filled with the purpose she had been looking for.
Asking to stay and being admitted free of charge, she began to quietly decorate and expand the lair until it was to her liking, looking less like a 'hole' and more like a 'home'. Her travelling buddy stayed too, glad that Shimmer had found her calling, and appearing satisfied with a place she could say she belonged to.
It wasn't long after this that she met Frost.
Shimmer was wandering the marketplace, looking for some good paint so that she could make a mural. She had firmly decided that she was going to become the best interior decorator the world had ever known, and she would start with Caramelloni's lair until it was the grandest spectacle in the universe. Whilst pondering her next artistic epiphany she bumped snouts with another Pearlcatcher, who quickly retreated, apologising profusely. This struck Shimmer as very unusual, and asked him if he was alright. He stammered a few more times before admitting that he'd been cast out form an all-pearlcatcher lair because, in so many words, they'd been too snobbish to keep him, and was looking for supplies so he could search for somewhere to live.
Naturally, Shimmer brought him to Caramelloni.
Frost held Shimmer in high regard after that, and, one day, after he proclaimed that she 'looked like a pearl', the two became mates.
