Shortly after fathering his first clutch of eggs, Rendual was summoned to the battlefield, to fight against the beast clan invaders from the North. There, he disappeared, and was presumed missing in action, much to the anguish of his mate, who was now left to raise their children alone. But in fact he was not dead.
During the battle, Rendual was mortally wounded. Delirious with pain, he stumbled away from the fighting, and into an ancient cave, where he discovered (quite by accident), a relic containing The Curse of Shadowyr.
By then, Rendual was breathing his final breaths, and in an attempt to save himself, he grasped the relic. Two things happened, first his wound became instantly healed, then his entire body became as a dark mist. When he returned to the camp, he came to realize that no one could see or hear him. To all but a few, he seemed to be just mist or fog, his voice was a whisper of a whisper, only audible to those who knew to listen for it.
Desperate to see his mate, Rendual journeyed back to his home. But to his great sorrow, like the others, she could not see him, though in her mind, she felt his presence.

So it is was, Rendual wandered the lands, neither eating, nor sleeping. A ghost, in search of a cure. With the hope that one day, he will be with his beloved once more.
Many years later, he did, with the help of Saboura, and the clan Magic worker, Trebuchet.

One day, while Saboura was meditating, she envisioned Rendual wandering the Shifting Expanse. Determined to bring Rendual back, Saboura immediately set out to find him.
When she did, he was delighted. Not only could she see him, but she also could hear him as well.

Saboura brought him back to the clan, but to everyone's dismay, Rendual remained a shadow. The clan, and Quari, had to take Saboura's word that he really was there.
It was only when Trebuchet, a Magic worker, came to the clan, was Rendual was freed from the curse. He now aids Quaridectyl as Battlemaster, and trains new warriors.
