of the Autumn Wood | ______________ |

⚮ Theme ⚮ Art by incognitas ⚮ wo dragons met in a yellow wood. Rain trickled through the trees. "You came," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. The Imperial kept his eyes on the ground. His breath formed temporary clouds around his maw. "Twelve years, two days, and-- and I don't even know how many hours," he murmured. The rain continued to fall. Evren felt her heart bleed. She opened her mouth, closed it. Opened it again. "I can't--" Her voice broke. "I can't love you the way you want me to. My life belongs to these woods. I can't be yours and only yours." The Imperial nodded. His mane began to drip. Evran closed her eyes and sighed, began to turn away. Then she heard it: "I'm sorry." |

About the A U T U M N . W O O D |
Overview he Autumn Wood is a forest shrouded in mists and dappled by breezy rains, a place that is forever blanketed in reds, oranges, and the occasional splash of green. It covers steep hills and wide valleys, and a large, deep lake occupies the center of it, with waters so reflective it has been named The Second Sky. The forest itself cannot be found by conventional methods. No map will reveal its location, no traveler can tell you the way. The only known way to reach the Autumn Wood is to become lost, but it is not merely lost on your way from A to B. The Autumn Wood is for those who are lost in their resolve, or those who have lost their life's sense of direction. Dragons who are overwhelmed and have lost their very will to go on may suddenly find themselves flying over endless autumn trees, the rain driving them to the ground. That is where they will find Evren. She will bow her head and smile as warm as the rains are not. "Come with me," she will say to the weary soul. "I have just the thing you need." |
Born of Autumn
vren was not the first dragon to take charge of the Autumn Wood, and she will not be the last. The forest is eternal, and though Evren is the ruling Matron, she is not the only occupant. A Guide is a dragon born of the Autumn Wood who has left the forest to offer assistance to those at risk of becoming lost. A possible Guide can be identified by the following breed standard: Black -- Ivory through Fire -- White Other genes and colors may work their way in through the generations. It is not uncommon to see second- or third-generation Guides exhibit the Peregrine or Daub gene, or to have a Maize underbelly or Obsidian cherub. Favored companions of Autumn Wood Guides are the Harvest Floracat, Autumn Dryad, Autumn Sea Dragon, Deadwood Boar, Fallbrush Fraud, and Nature Sprite, though there is no telling what companions a Guide may befriend on their journey. It is strange, but you will never see a Guide without noticing a brief Autumn Breeze going by. Perhaps it is the forest reaching out to them, stretching across Sorienth to remind them that though they have chosen to leave and dedicate their lives to others, the hills, valleys, and mists would welcome their return, should they have need of respite. |
