Biography
ERINYS
ERINYS SANK HER CLAWS INTO THE CRUMBLING STONE. The tunnel was now the length of her own body. Her tail trailed out into the original cavern, where Jacinthe collected tiny armfuls of rubble. Hefting another stone half his size, he waddled to the entryway, halfway up the side of the sheer cliff. After a long second, the echo of the stone’s impact reached their ears.
“We’ll put the hatchery here,” she said, kicking the loosened gravel behind her. “And the cavern can be the common room.”
“We could just make our nest in the corner,” Jacinthe grunted. He was sizing up a rock twice his size.
“You have to think ahead,” Erinys said. Her claws had quickly gone dull and blunt as she carved her tunnel, slowing her work.
“Think ahead to what?”
Erinys sat back on her haunches.
“To our clan,” she said. “We’ll need warriors and hunters and healers.”
“And cooks and a bard,” Jacinthe added, warming to the idea in his own way. “And more builders.”
“Sure,” Erinys said generously.
As it turned out, their first recruit was none of those. Falx crawled out of an early spring storm, battered and exhausted. She was older than Erinys and Jacinthe, and regarded the two thoughtfully.
“So the Windsinger created you?”
“He whistled us into existence,” Erinys said. “And now we’re going to start a clan, and it’s going to be bigger and stronger than any other clan.”
“We’re going to have all the most distinguished writers and mages,” Jacinthe said. “And a kitchen!”
“Sounds like a worthy ambition,” Falx said. “You’re going to need a lot of treasure.”
Erinys faltered, looking to Jacinthe who bit his lip. The old dragon seemed to know what she was talking about, and, being born almost literally yesterday, Erinys and Jacinthe were still uncertain about some of the practicalities of their vision.
“I counted coin in my old clan,” Falx said. “ I could be your treasurer."
Erinys and Jacinthe spent less and less time together after those early days. Erinys went hunting, and Jacinthe hosted a flying competition. Erinys lead an assault against the Beastclan, and Jacinthe oversaw the painting of a new mural. Erinys trained their soldiers, and Jacinthe interviewed potential bards.
And as their clan grew, so too did Erinys's ego. She began to refer to the clan as her "hoard", and jealously guarded her position as their leader and protector. Falx was there to temper her passion with wisdom, her ire with placid diplomacy. Things were not peaceful, but they were stable. At least for a time . . .

The Matriarch :: Absolute Power
|
PERSONALITY
Erinys has taken vagrants, orphans, and wanderers as her Charge, resulting in the sprawling clan known colloquially as the "Hoard". Like most Guardians, she would gladly lay down her life to protect her Charge, though that does not make her the wisest leader. Impassive and hard to read, she has an unnerving tendency to fall quiet, only to snap suddenly with unexpected rage or joy.
BIO
Over the years, Erinys has built a powerhouse among the Wind dragons, with outposts and balloons that stretch across the plateau. After adopting a quartet of cursed dragons, Erinys found herself the captor of the disgraced sorcerer, Shadowfell. Although he had lost his magic, Shadowfell successfully seduced the Hoard's prodigy, Anassa, who aided him in his escape. His disappearance threw the Hoard into disarray as many of their warriors and mages set out in hot pursuit, never to return.
In this moment of crisis, Erinys invited Etherea, a visiting arcanist, to extend her stay. The two quickly found themselves at odds, as Etherea's contentious presence sparked a schism in the Hoard. Since then, Erinys's pride has been torn between the Fleet, which she continues to lead, and Jacinthe's Hoard in their ancestral Whistling Heights. |
