Biography

As Wildclaws migrate from region to region they have had to hone their hunting skills. Things were different when they first braved the colds of the Southern Icefields. Everything was white, or ice, or ice on white. The subtle attacks they had previously learned from observing the flying hunters of the other regions, the hawks and falcons, were now unsuccessful. Their bright vibrant colors and patterns stood out against a white backdrop of snow, or the ice blue of the hoarfrost covered spines. As the hunting teams came back empty clawed, there was a faction of Wildclaw just waiting for their moment to shine. In regions they had passed through previously, their bright white or ice coloration made hunting difficult. It was in these regions the “Ice Falcons” (as they were called in jest by their peers) started to watch native wildlife even more closely.
Occupying the Southern Icefields now, sensing that they had an opportunity now to become great hunters like the Falcons and Eagles they had been studying. They began to study a particular falcon. The Gyrfalcon(jer-falcon)is the largest of the falcons and is adept at hunting, mating, and raising their young in the most inhospitable of places. As they observed the Gyrfalcon flying in vast circles high in the sky to spot prey and then diving in fast and furious, flying low to the ground they started practicing these very hunting methods.
The group of outcasts once known as Ice Falcons practiced this skill until it became second nature. Over years, decades, natural selection of the hunters meant that the most successful belonged to the faction that were now called GyrFalcons. The specialized hunters of the Southern Icefields are now celebrated instead of taunted for their pale colors.
