She came to them as an observer, a quiet shadow on the outreaches of the infamous clan. They were said to be Shade-Touched, bringers of doom, and created for the sole purpose of making havoc upon the realm of the Arcanist. Still, natural Arcane curiosity won against logic, so she stayed close, but never daring to approach a member. It quickly became apparent that they were not the fearsome clan that they were rumored to be. She was fascinated by them, yet she didn’t dare draw close; in fear of invoking the wrath of their vicious leader. Despite the danger, she was captivated. She pitied the former leaders, who had lost their clan to such a malicious dragon, while losing themselves in the process. She wept as she watched mates being torn away from each other as they were cast out of the clan, never to return. She was horrified as she watched the leader make havoc among the clan, never giving them a moment of peace. Yet, they endured. She smiled as they did when the few good things happened. A healthy nest, friendships made, love blossoming; small miracles in a place void of hope. Without realizing it, she became one of them. It was Rasia who finally found her and brought her to Ailsa. They kept her hidden from the leader’s eyes, silently teaching her the ways of the clan and the Starfall Isles, which had grown foreign to her during her time in the Windswept Plateau. One by one, she met the dragons she had observed for so long. Slowly, she was trusted. Rumours began to fly about her being the foretold savior of the clan, despite the fact that the savior’s appearance was nothing like her’s. Still, the weary and hope-stricken dragons put their faith in her. It was only natural that she was the one that led the revolt against the leader. However, she was not immediately placed in charge of the clan. Some still believed in the clan’s savior, despite the fact that their wicked leader had been vanquished. Some wanted the restoration of their old leaders, despite their protests that they no longer held an interest in leading the clan. A compromise was proposed. The old leaders, Razi and Phanes, would have a nest together; their first since the clan’s founding. Ailsa would judge the worth of the hatchlings and see if they were fit to lead. The only issue was that the leaders refused to cooperate. They had long since fallen out of love and neither of them wanted to have another nest, since the lost of their first nest still weighed heavily upon their hearts. Instead, they suggested that Atalya become the new clan leader. With their blessing, her position was secured. She became the Queen of Clan Aleirea.

Despite her lack of pink, Atalya is a true Arcane dragon. She is beautiful as she is intelligent, graceful as she is elegant, but she still possesses the natural curiosity that brought her to the clan in the first place. Rasia and Ailsa serve as her advisers, but the final decisions are in her hands. She often puts the clan before herself; focusing on their needs rather than her own. Not all of the clan accepts her rule. A few dragons still believe in the clan’s savior. Mairi is the most vocal of them all; her struggle to bear the savior seems to have driven her mad. Still, there is nothing she can do aside from ruling the clan as she always has- with a careful hand. No matter how hard she tries, she knows that there is no pleasing everyone. The move to the Sunbeam Ruins has shown her that- the clan may fall apart once again if she cannot quell their worries. |
