Biography
Maeve: Anglicized form of Irish Gaelic Meadhbh, meaning "intoxicating." In mythology, this is the name of a warrior queen of Connacht, the wife of Ailill.
The multi-doer of the clan, although she mainly handles the finances. Negotiating prices, charming potential buyers, making witty jokes and comments, and anything else she needs to do, including helping to... take care of unwanted enemies.
Maeve Vaccaro. Young, but certainly strong. From the moment she was hatched, she was always clever, wily, and had a knack for charming others.
Her first memory was wrestling with her brother in a clean, although dimly lit, room. She was just convincing her brother to let her win, not only with just words, but pleading eyes and defeated gestures--when really, she could probably handle her own.
However, soon, two dragons appeared at the entranceway. One, she knew. It was her mother, Nikki, the one who handled the money, the one who told her that she would soon be sent to another home. She'd called her "Queenie" for a small while, but somehow, the small Imperial knew that wasn't her real name.
The other, she almost didn't see at first. The fae was tiny, but bright blue, which first caught her attention. The second thing she noticed was the small, monotone voice, which asked about "the girl" and glanced backwards, in the direction of the other room where the young Imperial's uncle--who looked quite a lot like the youngest herself--had just laid out the rules.
The two dragons soon turned away, negotiating prices in a lower voice. It seemed that the fae didn't have quite enough money--but she would soon.
Sure enough, within a couple hours, she was back, a large pouch of treasure being shouldered by another dragon, this one red and sooty and quite a bit bigger than his companion. The fae flitted into the room, took the Imperial by the paw, and led her away.
She was dubbed "Maeve," and the two dragons introduced themselves as Delphi and Pompeii. The new Maeve stayed silent for a long time as they traveled, wondering where exactly they were going, and why she had been taken away so quickly.
Soon, the three dragons came to the sea, where their clan was resting. The assortment of dragons surprised her; there were even a few hatchlings like herself. She was quickly settled in to her new (slightly damp) personal room, where she curled up to sleep--but not for long.
Maeve was woken from her nap by one of the Wildclaws shaking her awake, his coal wings flitting a bit nervously. Although she was pretty irritated at being awoken, she soon found out why: someone from the mafia had arrived.
Valentino, known as Val, was pretty courteous, handing a battered suitcase to Delphi (who quickly set it down, seeing as it was bigger than her), and instructed the clan to take good care of Maeve before taking his leave, but not before giving a parting smile to Maeve.
Maeve gave a small grin back, before dragging the suitcase to her room. Inside, glittering gold jewelry awaited her, along with a couple wing cuffs (which she likes to think as piercings). And on top was a note:
Kiddo --
Congrats, you've made it! Now, these dragons that have so graciously accepted you into their clan want you to make lots of money for them, so remember everything I taught you! Make them proud, but don't forget to keep the good Vaccaro family name. We're counting on you to spread our renown all across Sornieth.
Listed to what the clan leaders want you to do, but don't let anyone push you around! Use those moves your daddy showed you!
I packed you some of my jewelry (jewelry whose acquisition I'm not at liberty to say), Wear it with pride and hold your head up high; you're a Vaccaro!
- Nikki
Maeve read the note over and over, eventually tucking it away in a dry corner of the room, before lifting out the apparel. At the moment, it was quite big for her, but as she grew, it fit a little better.
Now, she's a bit more social in the clan, her wit often making others laugh, although some are still wary of what they call "the mafia's daughter." But, well, that's where they're wrong.
She isn't the mafia's daughter. She still is the mafia.
