Yavanna's Clan
The Mother Tree
Clan Info
As the forest at the edge of the Shrieking Wilds starts to grow thicker, the trees part to reveal a large encampment of dragons hidden beneath the dappled sunlight. These are Yavanna’s disciples; a group of dragons that have formed a clan around this enigmatic and ancient dragon who seems inextricably linked to the realm of Nature.
Although the camp sits at a denser part of the forest at some times, it doesn’t always stay in the same place. The clan has many different camps spread throughout the Viridian Labyrinth, with most of them centered around the Shrieking Wilds. When food becomes scarce in one area, the clan moves to another place so that the plants and animals might grow fruitful again. Yavanna’s clan is careful to maintain the delicate balance of nature.
Fortunately, not many people seem interested in bothering them. They often leave their camps unattended for periods of time, and come back to find them still undisturbed. It’s almost as though the forest itself is watching out for them as they do their best to protect it from enterprising Shadow and Lightning dragons.
Some of the more pious dragons in the clan consider Yavanna to be a sort of nature deity or spirit. They still acknowledge the Gladekeeper’s power, but believe that there are many Nature deities, rather than a single one. To avoid being seen as heretics by other clans, they keep to themselves in the depths of the forest. Many of the clan’s dragons have come from other places, all around Sornieth. They hear tales of a strange forest deity and come to see her for themselves. She never forces anyone to worship her. They just seem to follow her when they realize she’s really something mystical.
Yavanna treats each of her clan members with the utmost care. They are her disciples in a way. They listen to her words, and do their best to follow her example and act as she does. Although she has taken on the form of a Tundra, it’s clear that she’s no ordinary dragon.
The clan also puts great faith in Yavanna’s mate, Aulë – even referring to him as “The Maker of Things.” In a way, he and Yavanna seek to make the world into something better. The smallest seed might one day grow into a great oak tree. Yavanna knows this well, and lives her life with the hope that her children will move throughout the world – growing into capable dragons and spreading the beauty of life across Sornieth.
