You step through the doorway of worn limestone into the central chamber, where soft sunset light seeps from the walls, illuminating the room without casting any shadows, drowning the space in rose gold.

A dais stands in the centre of the room, and on a high stool sits a fae and the leader of the clan, aer tail curled around one of the stool’s three legs, a sunbeam soldier armed and ready at aer side. Beside aer, aer consort; feathers unkempt and eyes bandaged, blind.

“Auros— the magnifier,” says the fae, and the whir and click of a machine sounds from the space behind the dais, and then light stretches through what appears to be a looking glass and the image of the fae is projected six times the size before you. Aer eyes mask curiosity with distrust as ae looks at you, but eventually the former thought wins out and ae opens aer mouth to speak.

“We en’t seen you ‘round here before,” ae says, “and you definitely en’t from the area; your voice ’s all wrong.” The bandaged skydancer besides aer shifts uneasily at that comment, but any complaints remain unvoiced. “But,” the fae continues, “You’ve got words we ent, and you might have books.” The fae unwraps aer tail from the stool and unfurls aer wings, glimmering at the edges with light.

“In any case, welcome to Clan Silvertongue.”

hi!! im ella and im very concerned about how different breeds of dragons communicate! do they share a language or what. bcs surely if theyre all different-y they might not all share the same vocal capacities? idk. petition to create a universal dragon conlang with as few and as simple sounds as possible.
