Heathens. Blasphemers. Heretics. They are the Sisters of Doubt: a clan of female Ridgebacks, cursed and cast away by all the Gods save one; feared and reviled by the faithful for their apostasy. None know why the Plaguebringer harbors them, keeps them safe in her land, nor do they know how to prevent the spread of their message.

The Gods, they say, are lying to their faithful. They say the Shade does not exist, that it never existed. They say that the true horror that threatens their sisters, the most harrowing darkness, the greatest shadow, is that which is cast by the rotting lies of those who would protect us. We are bound by faith and ruled by fear, the Sisters say, accepting unquestioned an evil we have never seen but which our Gods assure us exists all around us; they are right that we are steeped in evil, but they dissimulate the form it takes. The Sisters of Doubt have a clear message: we must abandon our faith, we must abandon our Gods. Their mantra, uttered only in whispers, written only in dust: the truth will set you free.

While much is known of their message, little is known of the heretics, from where they came or to whom they truly answer. It is speculated that they were once aligned with the Lightweaver, great scholars of antiquity and ruin. Others rumor that they were raised in the halls of the Arcanist, exposed to a corrupting knowledge that rended their minds and fractured their sanity.

Whatever their origin, the Sisters have scattered their contagion across the eleven continents -- a plague of the mind rather than of the body, an idea that spreads like a disease from host to host. Most exposed do not succumb, not immediately. But the seeds of doubt, once implanted and given time to incubate, are not so easily removed. And one must never forget: the mind corrupts and the soul rots as easily as the body, given the proper infection.

Why does the Plaguebringer harbor these apostates? What validity is to be found in the bold claims of the Sisters of Doubt? Are they themselves agents of the Shade?
