Wading through the oily wetlands of the Tangled Wood, you may see flickering lights in the darkness ahead. At first, they could seem like the glow of insects or fungi, until the brightness, and the colors of them-- red, orange, purple-- reach your eyes. There are sounds, too. Laughing and chattering and the faint tones of music. The sound and light flutters against cloth, the surface of a large tent. No, actually-- as you draw closer you see the silhouettes of a whole complex of tents emerge from the darkness, as well as its creeping denizens. Dragons flit between the tents and trees, dart between the haphazardly constructed shelters, and emerge from the surrounding muck. You reach a muddy bank, and it’s hard to not rustle through the underbrush, which is when a hush sweeps over them. Countless bright purple eyes are fixed on you.
They’re ecstatic. It's not always easy for them to wrangle up an audience.
BRANCHES
The dragons of the Circus are categorized by their work. In these groups, there is usually one or several leaders, and underlings who defer to them, but there is no particular hierarchy between the branches. It is expected that everyone do their own job, and not tell anyone else how to do theirs-- while the religious group is important, for example, they are expected to bow to the entertainment group when it comes to matters of how to clown.LEADERS: The three founders of the clan, Allhallowtide, Strawberry, and Wisp. Unlike the other groups, everything in the Circus is their business, and everyone must accept their input. In the minds of the clan, their direction is what got the Circus this far, and following this direction is essential. Anyone who doesn't want to can leave.
MANAGEMENT GROUP: The smallest branch, and without a hierarchy of members. These dragons are in charge of financing, logistics, and other technical but important issues that other members of the carefree troupe tend to not think about.
ENTERTAINMENT GROUP: What's a circus without performers? This is the largest and most visible group of the clan, and includes not just the dragons who preform, but stagehands, musicians, vendors, and anyone else who contributes to the circus experience. The largest of the branches.
SORCERY GROUP: Aside from entertainment (and honestly, often including it), the most valuable commodity produced by the Circus is alchemical materials.
RELIGIOUS GROUP:
DEFENSE GROUP:
NATURALIST GROUP:
MANUFACTURING GROUP: These dragons work with the raw materials of the Sorcery and Naturalist groups in a variety of crafts. Most physical aspects of the Circus are due to their hard work and artistry, from the buildings to the costumes.
