ROCKET CLAN
An ambitious hoard of Skydancers. A neighboring, metal-rich Fire clan open for stealing. A mysterious altitude-recording device. The enigma of the Shade. A history of family rivalry. What could possibly go wrong? Current leader: Cyan at 8.137 km Hatchery ✴ Shop ✴ Family Tree ✴ Link | . |
LORE Two dragons, Ravenstrike and Gardenia, bonded by love, wandered from their original clans to start one of their own. The two happened across the small but suitable territory of Lylis and Ronald, a retiring couple seeking to pass their land to a newer clan. They had no unusual plans; they merely wanted to live a simple life, or at least as simple a life as a pair of clan leaders could have. They sought to serve Stormcatcher and produce children that would do the same. Nothing more. Yet, they happened across an odd, metallic device, a combination of both magic and technology. The couple later discovered that this small, windowed box, full of brass and bronze gears, could record the highest altitude it had ever reached. For a long time, Ravenstrike and Gardenia protected the Device, starting a family that would proceed to do the same. They revered the Device, believing it to be an artifact of a long lost clan. One time, while Cyan, Ravenstrike's second son, was guarding the Device, he attached it to his familiar, which proceeded to fly it higher than it had yet been: a kilometer. His brother, Fern, saw this, and snuck into Cyan's den the following night to steal the box and fly it even higher. This began a rivalry between the two. Chalcedony was the first of many Arcane dragons to visit the clan. He was in love with Velvet, a friend of Cyan's mate Taupa. He heard about the brothers' rivalry through Velvet and took interest. Being Arcane, Chalcedony wanted to learn more about the Shade, and believed that the Device held secrets about the Shade. Chalcedony eventually had a litter with Velvet. This litter attracted the attention of two Skydancers, Techia and Derecho, while Chalcedony's interest in the Lightning clan attracted numerous Arcane dragons. These dragons, mostly Skydancers and Spirals, sought to discover the secrets hidden within the Device, and wished to see the rivalry escalate, with hopes that one of the Skydancers of the clan would carry the Device closer to the Shade. And escalate, it did. Techia and Derecho grew interested in the Device and joined in the competition. Techia used her scientific knowledge to design rockets for the Device, while Derecho vigorously trained his wings to improve his strength. Derecho held a new record until Techia managed to keep a rocket pointing upward for a few seconds. Meanwhile, Cyan and Fern fell behind in the competition Then, Chalcedony left Velvet to steal Florinia, Gardenia's best friend, from her previous mate, Canvas. Canvas was distraught, as his love had left him, and joined the clan in an attempt to win her back. Terminal, Florinia's first mate, joined soon after. Canvas generally stayed out of the rivalry, preferring instead to gawk at the other pretty females of the clan. Terminal invested heavily in the competition, engineering devices, like wing extensions, to aid him in flying the Device higher than before. At this point, Ravenstrike was frustrated. The Device, which he revered, had fallen into the claws of careless, chaotic dragons who sought only to set the highest record. With Chalcedony came disorder, where dragons changed mates and stole from each other. His family was linear and close-knit, while Chalcedony's family branched in every direction. He wanted the Device back, so he looked to Fern and Cyan: his closest connections. Cyan adapted to the competition and invented mechanisms of his own, effectively combining parts of Terminal's plans with aspects of Techia's. He utilized electricity, an idea that had surprisingly not occurred to the Lightning dragons, to create small crafts that carry to Device higher. Fern, meanwhile, looked to Derecho's idea of brute strength, training to outmatch the competition by muscle alone. The competition had evolved to a family rivalry. As more Arcane dragons migrated to the clan, and as every other dragon sought to bring the Device the highest, the clan's structure revolved around the competition. The dragon who had flown the Device highest gained dominance in the clan, ruling until the next time the Device would reach a new record. That is how the clan runs to this day. Arcane, Lightning, and even Nature dragons from around the continent have visited to watch, observe, and learn from the Skydancer's strange endeavors. Arcane especially has a keen interest in the clan, with the pink-eyed dragons suddenly and quietly showing up only to later disappear. All the while, the feud continuously escalates, with two separate families — Ravenstrike and Chalcedony — competing externally and internally for dominance. |
