>The mirror sat alone on a rocky outcropping, her armor soaked through.
The rain clouds at last parted, revealing the stars, but she did not notice. Her gaze was distant, her lips involuntarily twitching into a snarl, and she hissed to herself with venom in her words and on her tongue. Her eyes began to water, and with a shuddering breath, her presence returned. Eyes darted, she checked behind her. She was still alone.
But she did not have to be. A comforting glow crept from the yawning entrance of the lair. The sound of laughter met her ears. A face peered from the cave, scanning into the dark, before an exasperated, playful huff:
"Nightshade, there you are. Quit your brooding..." He chuckled. "What are we going to do with you? Come on inside."
She hauled herself up on steady feet and approached the smiling guardian.
The rock below where her belly had rested was still dry as the moon came into view.<
This lair is where the lost find a home. The main entrance is tucked away below the walkways of the Parched Canyons, hidden by a small, often dried up waterfall. There are many other exits sprinkled around, some above the crevices covered in boulders and dry shrubs, others opening up near the gloom of the bottom. The lair itself is very ant-hill like in construction. Incomprehensively massive, at this point it is an underground city burrowed into the cliffs. Lengthy, winding tunnels open into vast, intricately decorated and carved caverns. Narrow, straight tunnels and carefully placed mirrors bring in daylight and diffract it around the rooms, warming the dragons and illuminating their work. These tunnels also function to collect equally important rainwater. Every social action or practical craft has its own room, decorated accordingly. Everything from reading, socializing, playing, roughhousing, having tea, communal feasts, inventing, butchering, preserving, and alchemy. Prized possessions of this lair include anything shiny, particularly gems and stones, as well as hardy plant life to bring some greenery. New clan mates, hatchlings included, must dig their own room as the “initiation” process. There is an individual room for every dragon, even though a good number of the residents are rarely home. The clan's hoard is meticulously organized in a network of rooms, and the vault is well concealed. A lair expansion is a massive construction processes, where every clan member digs at preexisting rooms to expand them. The dragons here have managed to even ally themselves with neighboring beast clans and dragon lairs. Not much disturbs them. They dwell in the cracks of obscurity, both literally, and figuratively. But I suppose that is where the fun comes from.
