Tiny Little Questions

Forum Post | Help Center | By Undel
@Mnemosyne Sounds like a bug or browser incompatibility to me. I tried using the auction house and everything is fine.

If you could report it, along with what browser/setup you were using at the time in the bug reports forum, one of our programmers will take a look at it. We are working to try and be compatible with all browser, and some require interesting work-arounds. :-)

Reports are good for the tracking thread. That particular bug is pretty fun, but it's incredibly difficult to reproduce. It's on thrage's hit-list though.

Re: Coliseum treasure-earning
Some of the familiars and battle stones from the coliseum sell for hundreds to thousands of gold without ever having to touch the auction house. You can vendor things for their default sell value from your hoard. The default sell value is the value that appears in the tooltip.

Of course, if you have patience selling to other players may get you more gold in the long-run, even if it takes a bit for the transactions to go through.

Coliseum trouble
Jun 23, 2013, 07:15:23
Forum Post | Help Center | By Undel
The coliseum considers navigating away from the page to be the same as losing, and durng our downtime that disconnect may have counted as you navigating away. (We didn't want folks to close their browser every time it looked like they might lose to avoid energy penalty.)

Our apologies the server got your clan bonus down. Once more dragons are in your lair, this will be less of an issue. (If you only have 3 dragons and all three are at 35 energy your overall clan energy is going to take a huge dip and lose the bonus. If you have 20 dragons and 3 lose 15 energy, your average clan energy will not take a huge hit, and this will be less of a problem. :-)
Immaculate Tablets?
Jun 23, 2013, 07:09:27
Make all your gathering turns in light zones this week and you'll have a good chance of turning up some tablet stacks. :-)

Tablets also drop commonly off light-element creatures in the coliseum, and uncommonly off of neutral / no element critters. That pack of 4 bone priests everyone hates is your new best friend for gaining holiday currency. :-)
Downtime Updates

Its once again possible to log in and play Flight Rising. Thank you so much for your patience these past two days.

What has caused the latency issues?
The second server we hooked up to hold our database and split the load was not in the location we expected. It was located in DC, while our main server was in LA. This meant there was thousands of miles for the data to travel for one server to talk to its partner, and was a major contributing factor to our latency issues. We're back on a single server, but have plans to hook up a dual-setup in the future - in the same data center this time.

The second issue was our message board. Last night our codesmiths took a hatchet to the forums and found several places where the queries were taking longer than they should have. This had the effect of making the site progressively slower the more posts we had and the more people we had viewing/reading/writing to them. In addition, we've located several areas around the site where we can continue to optimize how queries work and how data is cached.

  • All accounts on-site have been mailed additional treasure and food resouces.
  • The deadline for the Brightshine Jubilee skin contest has been extended to June 24, 6:00 server time to ensure that everyone who wanted to participate had a chance to submit their work.
  • The fairegrounds are currently closed. Our programmers are working on changes to Runestones and Jigsaw, and these games will return as soon as these improvements have been completed.
  • Because we made such drastic changes to the forums, there may be a few hiccups in that area of the site. Please check for a tracking thread in our bug report forums as we continue to clean things up.
  • Downtime goodies will be mailed to everyone later today.

Thank you so much for your patience, and have a great morning.

Flight Rising is still having latency/connection issues. We're actively searching for the source of the problem, and will be in read-only mode as we work to find and resolve them. We expect to be down for at least 8 hours, at time we will have a fresh update on the situation.

We will get this resolved.

In the meantime:
  • Akiri will feed your dragons and incubate your eggs if downtime extends to tonight.
  • All accounts on-site have been mailed additional treasure and food resouces.
  • The deadline for the Brightshine Jubilee skin contest has been extended to June 23, 22:00 ST. If we have additional downtime, we may look at extending this further to ensure that everyone who wanted to participate had a chance to submit their work.
  • As they're not able to assist on the coding front, our artists are hard at work preparing some downtime goodies for everyone for when we return. We hope you'll like them. :-)

Our apologies again for the downtime. Thank you so much for playing; we will continue to chip-away at this until we can have you playing once more.
Extra Plundered Pile clicks?

Problems since site reopened

Forum Post | Bug Report Forums | By Undel
We're currently looking into this. While we were down, we took advantage of the time to migrate our database to a new piece of hardware, but it seems to be causing latency issues. Our apologies for the sluggish browsing experience. We'll be working on this until its resolved.
Crossroads not working
Jun 22, 2013, 14:49:58
Forum Post | Bug Report Forums | By Undel
A full lair would be the cause of the issue. You'll need to purchase additional spaces to make sure that you have room for the dragon you're trading for. (I know it's a one to one swap, but the crossroads system doesn't treat it that way.)

Hello Mariah,

I am unable to reproduce your issues.

We are currently working to address latency issues around the site that may have stemmed from our recent changes to our database hardware. This may be the cause of what you're experiencing.

Message to our Community
Jun 21, 2013, 02:44:30
To our community:

We would like to thank you for your support while Flight Rising recovers from the issues that we experienced this afternoon and evening. Because we have been transparent with you from the beginning, we will continue that trend in saying: Flight Rising was prey to exploitation by parties who sought to cause a stir with its in-game economy. We are very serious about keeping the site and your accounts as safe as possible, so we locked the site as soon as we noticed the problem. Because these vulnerabilities still exist, it will need to remain offline, but we hope to have it up for general use, dragon care, and battling as early as we can. Unfortunately, this heavily affects the Fairgrounds, and thus, they will be unavailable until that hole is mended.

Because you, as a community, have been so wonderful to us, we want to return the favor and ensure that you do not lose your progress within the game. We will be keeping all dragons' energy topped off, and will be incubating your nests during the downtime. We have also decided that we will not be altering/rolling back treasure amounts, except those that were in gross excess.

We only ask one thing: Honesty. When the site is back up, if you feel that your treasure amount was increased during the event, we encourage you to step forward and mail the extra funds directly to Undel as a means of helping the economy stay as strong as possible.

As a bit of good news: we have successfully migrated our database to its own server, which will now run concurrently to the rest of the site. We are confident that this move will benefit the site in the long run, and we will be monitoring performance as we move forward with the new setup.

Again, our thanks for your patience today, and your dedication and enthusiasm (we have been reading the social media outlets all night!) to our project, and hope that you continue to enjoy yourself, even in the midst of some changes and fixes.

- Your Flight Rising Dev Team

This was a carryover from when we used to have a link to 'Enemies' in that corner as well. We removed the Enemies part of this feature while we work on a new iteration of it, so this link simply refreshes the page.
Size Difference in Dragons
Jun 20, 2013, 04:37:39
Hee hee. Your dragons (including progenitors) will continue to grow for many days before attaining their full size.

There's breed threshholds for each male/female (in some breed, females are typically larger, while in others, the male is.) Each breed has highs/lows for length/wingspan/weight. If you hit a high and low, it makes for some fun dragons. There can be short dragons, long dragons, underweight dragons, heavier dragons, dragons with itty bitty wings, and dragons with long wings.

Part of the fun is seeing how everything ends up. I can say the the size chart you posted is using dragon's adolescent weights and not their full adult sizes. :-)

Ridgeback, Imperial, and Guardian are our largest breeds. Guardian's the big boys who will have the biggest weight. They're a solid dragon. Imperials have the possibility of being much longer than guardians, but they will never weigh as much. They're a long breed, but in terms of mass, guardian will usually win.

There's a few cases like this. Spirals may outlength things like mirror and pearlcatcher, but mirror and pearlcatcher are "larger" dragons then them pretty much every time. Spirals are ribbons.

It may pretend to be generous for a little while. The javascript does not always catch preventing a match in the dropdowns. The server will catch it though if you try to go through with it.

I think I found the issue. It was the ghost of Beta past. Thankfully I had a spare proton pack laying around. It shouldn't be coming back to bother anyone... unless the city shuts my power off.

Try again. Akiri put in a fix. Turns out we had dragon ghosts from beta walking around saying "Nooo, that ID number belongs to me and I'm totally related to that other ID number".

Keep your dragons well-fed three days in a row to gain the well-fed bonus. It's worth it, as the free goodies, exp bonus, and extra gathering turns are OP.
