Coliseum Familiar Rebalancing:
  • Several familiars were once available only as rare gathering drops, with very high vendor values because of just how unusual gathering one of them was; these same familiars were later introduced into the coliseum, where they are readily available and drop frequently. As part of the coliseum loot balance, their vendor values have been brought in-line to the value of the venues from which they originate. Non-gathered familiars in venues have received increases and decreases in value, applicable to the venue they call home.

This thread needs to be summarised and posted as a news article. These are large changes to the familiars of the site and I'm not sure that an unstickied thread is really an appropriate way to tell people about the changes.

Server Restarts
May 28, 2014, 07:15:24
Restart is complete, we currently do not anticipate any further restarts.

Update: We will experience another restart at 07:50 server time.

Update: Restart completed. We anticipate another one and will update you with the time here and on social media. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Good morning everyone! We will be experiencing a short downtime at 07:30 server time while the developers reboot the site.

We anticipate maybe one or two more restarts before the close of business today; they are working on improvements that can only happen in the live environment. We apologize for the inconvenience but it is necessary. Please watch this post for further updates.

@Schainukan, there is a known issue where if one or both trade partners has a full Lair the trade will not go through.

If this is not your issue, we ask that players post their bug reports to the Bugs forum. Thank you!

@Nika, as Undel said, this will all be in an upcoming announcement post. The information was posted in the forum as a means of letting players know what was going on, that it was intended and not a bug.

Barrier Puzzle Removal Thread
May 27, 2014, 10:32:01
We go through existing ones based on difficulty. Not all barriers are fully banned but many are rejected due to difficulty, positioning on the screen, and playability.

We also do not allow "calling out" of players and listing puzzles someone feels should be removed is problematic at best.

Coliseum Familiar Rebalance

@Sorikai - Coliseum familiar vendor value did all change at once. All familiar increase/decreases happened at the same time. :)

@Nequam - This change was to familiars only. At this time we have no current changes for battle stones. When the augment stones are fixed we'll likely be adding some new ones in though.

@ everyone All familiar prices are adjusted now; The table up top is no longer having things added to it.

@dorkit We will not be reverting the change, though in the future anything this large will have warnings provided. My apologies.

@Rhea There are too many items to do a drop percentage table, and we do want some of that stuff to be ambiguous like "This is a rare item" rather than "this is an item that drops 1/200 times.

@Raikdow Festival currency and chests do have a higher drop rate in higher venues. But time spent is also a consideration. :)

@Hrokr I battle probably less than a typical player on my play account. I spend an average of 2 hours a week, battling 10 minutes in each venue to make sure everything is werkin' I can't speak for the other admin.

That said, I am curious to what you'll be adding to the higher levels to make it the most alluring. As of now, I can make more money in the woodland path than the mire just because the familiars aren't worth significantly more, and I can get more of them as I blaze through 1-hitting everything.

Woodland path familiars are worth ~1650
Mire familiars are worth ~2800

Item drops have a difference in value too fwiw.

@Rhea @Grune
  • Adding a new item is an independent chance for that item to drop.
    • Adding a new item does not lessen the chance for existing items to drop - you have a new chance in addition to the existing chances of existing items.
  • We are adding a lot of new coliseum exclusives that drop 75% of the time (roughly)
    • When we add these new items in, we sometimes (but not always) lessen an existing non-exclusive drop. For example: When elk ears were introduced, the elk ears were added in at a 50% drop rate, and elk pelts were added in at a 50% drop rate, and at the same time, Arctic Scrub was reduced from a 40% drop rate to a 10% drop rate off elks. (as the main food elks drop is now the exclusive ears.)

Re: Scarlet Flycatchers and Celestial Antelopes:
It is worth noting that rarer drops will likely hold their value despite a decrease in vendor treasure value. The poltrygeist (which had a sell value of 0) still sells quite well on the auction house. Coarserfur yeti (another rare drop, that used to be worth less than it is now) holds its value the same. These are not items that drop in bulk so frequently that it's better to vendor them back to the system then to deal with other players. That being said:

Re: Drop rates:
This change is making our familiar value a perfect curve, with each venue's familiars being worth more than the one before (to the system.) If we increase drop rates, it means that it will be more difficult to sell to other players - but the trade off is that you could have more copies of the familiar to vendor back to the site, effectively generating gold. We're not likely to change drop rates at this time for familiars. However, I think what I'm hearing is not "I want more familiars to drop" but "I want more items with higher values to drop so that I can generate gold without having to deal with the auction house." These are two different things, the latter of which can be addressed in creative ways that scale with venue level :)

Re: Augment Stones:
If the artists were capable of fixing the programming on augment stones, we would make that #1 priority before balancing coliseum loot tables; however, that is not our skill set. We're not throwing our programmers at balancing the coliseum OVER fixing augment stones. Two different sets of people. :) That being said, an augment stone fix is something I would like to see as soon as possible.

Re: Warning
I agree, and in the future a change of this scale affecting this many items will have a warning. I went into this with the impression that I would be mostly affecting future drops - I did not know that hoarding 10+ of a single type of familiar with the intention to vendor but not actually vendoring right away was a practice. I know better now, and if we do something of this scale in the future, warning will be provided so that everyone can take care of their existing inventories how they like. I am very sorry to those whose inventories were heavily affected.

Sorry guys :-( But there's a lot of buffs happening simultaneously. I'm going through each an every coliseum familiar now. Rather than guessing (or sticking things from other areas, such as gathering straight into the coliseum) we're now using value tables that increase with coliseum venue. It's going to make a lot more sense going forward. :)

@Chespin

First 5 listed are the chest skins. (they are dug up and dropped via coliseum) They also now have a chance to stop in the marketplace, though since they are available via other means, they stock at lower quantities in the marketplace.

Last 5 are the marketplace skins. (they stock in larger quantities in the marketplae.)

And I was just about to go to bed, too. Sad that I didn't win, but these skins are really great.

This month, all of dragonkind come together to celebrate the Greenskeeper Gathering. This festival commemorates the reclusive nature flight. Their most prized possessions, Bladed Flatleaves, can be found by using any gathering type in nature areas this week. Neutral and nature element monsters also have a chance to rarely yield these items as drops in the Coliseum.

Bladed Flatleaf

The Festive Favors holiday stall is now open for the duration of the holiday and you may trade in Bladed Flatleaves for exclusive items. It will remain open until the holiday comes to a close on Sunday June 1st at 23:59 server time. (Greenskeeper Gathering has been extended one day due to an issue the first day that displayed the incorrect holiday banner and items.)

When will skins be posted?
May 26, 2014, 00:37:14
After the Starfall shenanigans of this morning, the greenskeeper news post and skin results are nearly ready. They will be up shortly. However, in the meantime you may still dig in nature and turn up chests - unopenable chests. They will transform into chests that contain a skin inside as the update goes live. This ensures that everyone will still have a full 7 days to turn up a chest, as we are extending the festival by 1 day.
