you do not need to follow any canon information for your lore if you don't want to, the only real 'guidelines' for it are those for the site itself - so nothing that a 13 year old can't handle - anything else is fair game
if you want specifics on how far you can take it (in terms of being kid friendly) then you can look through the writing in the encyclopedia, especially the bounty of the elements stories
