TOPIC | Random Scry Challenge
A thing I do sometimes is go to the Predict Morphology page and try to make the randomly generated dragon look awesome. The only things that can't change are the colors and flight (just like actual dragons!). It's a way to mess around with color combinations I normally wouldn't think of to try and come up with some neat looking dragons. My general process is to switch all genes to basic, set eyes to Common, and start shuffling the genes one at a time until I start to end up somewhere I like. Tying together colors that appear in different genes, creating a coherent, non-cluttered looking dragon, then finding an eye type that matches the whole aesthetic. Sometimes I feel really stuck on a dragon, swap the breed, and dang if the whole thing doesn't come together! Here's a few. Random Scry 1: My Scry: Keeping the breed the same for the first one. I noticed that the light orange stripes that show up on the primary for Tapir match the light orange in Current, tying those two genes together. The Tert was more difficult, but I ended up liking Blossom because the centers with abyss almost match the turquoise in the primary. So all three genes have colors that tie in to each other, which creates some nice cohesion! Option 2 would be Opal since it's less busy than Blossom and the highlights still have that nice color match with the turquoise. Honestly you can almost never go wrong with a combo of Wasp/Bee/Stained, and the lighter the color for Stained, the more pastel and soft the overall dragon ends up (mostly lol). Warmer tones for Stained combined with generally darker greens and blues for the Primary and Secondary are usually a great combo. Option 2 I'm not as into, but there's a color consistency between thistle Loop and rose Capsule that I did really like, so I ended up using Fade for the primary so the main body didn't draw too much attention away from that link. That soft pastel green generally goes nicely with pink hues, and the darker gradient for moss is close in tone to thistle in a way that feels cohesive. But look at the absolute POWER of Stained as a tertiary gene!! For Option 1, we've just got ourselves a generally appealing blend of pinks and purples that the splash Stained smooths over and gives a delicious little light blue tinge to, completing our very cotton candy sort of vibe. Option 2 I kept the Stained because... well, it honestly just works here. Fade and Spinner both have a touch of yellow in them, and using Stained mellows it out to roughly the same yellow color between the two genes, giving us some purple/yellow complimentary color action that also ties in nicely with the Fire Pastel eyes. Generally a nice little dragon here! It's especially noticeable as an Obelisk with her larger eyes and curly mane adding a ton more yellow highlights for the Secondary gene. This stands out in all breeds but it less apparent in Spirals due to her smaller wings. Option 3 on this one because sometimes you gotta push yourself past relying on Stained to do all the heavy lifting, yanno? We've got our nice blend of pinks and reddish-purples from our Primary and Secondary with a pop of tropical blue coming from Peacock. The darker blues in our Tert fade into a similar tone as the darker purples in mulberry on our Secondary, the more bubblegum aspects of our Primary are mirrored in the lighter pinks of our Secondary, and we've still got some of that pleasing purple/yellow complimentary color thing going on, combining with blue/orange complimentary to a lesser extent. She ends up with some very tropical dusk vibes. So yeah! There we go. I think the first dragon is the weakest overall and I didn't end up with any wildly difficult combos like Sand/Shamrock/Magenta or whatever. Stained is such a brilliant and powerful Tertiary gene though, holy moly!! A lot of this is mostly a cool way to see how awesome the FR art team is, because the fact that I can take some completely random colors and end up with a dragon that looks pretty using a dash of color theory and some experimentation really makes the work they do shine. I'd really like to see what other people come up with, and I do realize I'm absolutely not the first person to play this little game but that doesn't make it less fun, haha.
