TOPIC | Temeraire/His Majesty's Dragon!
So I just started reading the Temeraire/His Majesty's Dragon book series by Naomi Novik (actually finishing book #1 right now-- I checked out the omnibus of the first three), and I was like, this is the dragon website. There have to be other fans on here!

I am so in love you guys. These books are so excellent. I love Laurence and Tem's friendship so much. I thought these were going to be dry books but then I read a sample and I couldn't put it down! Please show me your fandragons, your fanart, and tell me your (spoiler-free) thoughts! Which type of dragon would you want to captain?

Also we might be getting an animated series? And I was just supposed to find out about that myself? My source is a little old, but hopefully they do make it and they do the books justice. I love animation and I love to see western studios taking animation for adult audiences seriously as a storytelling medium.

P.S. I can't stop picturing dear Tem as a Flight Rising Imperial help!

I love Temeraire! I've haven't read all of the books but I enjoyed the ones I have. The relationship between Laurence and Temeraire is so good, and the blend between the historical setting with fantasy is refreshing. Who'd have thought "napoleon with dragons" would work so well.

They stopped translating the books in my language and I just couldn't switch to the English versions, so my enjoyment of the series unfortunately ended there.

And they better make some movie/animated show. It's an undiscovered gem and I just know that if an adaptation is good enough it's gonna blow up.

I can't remember most of the breeds at the moment, but I like the idea of bonding to a big dragon like a regal copper. But befriending a small one like a Greyling would also be nice. What I do know is that I wouldn't want to be the captain of any acid-spitting breed. I'd be too anxious.

@CinnamonThief Aw man, I'm sorry to hear that they stopped translating them. How far were you able to get?

I also really love the blending of real history with fantasy, and how much thought was put into that. It's fun to look up the real-life people and events happening in the background, like how Jane Roland joins the Battle of Trafalgar in the first book. I feel like I'm learning a little haha!

Oh same, I can't decide if I'd want to bond with a really big dragon, or with a cute little (for a dragon) one. Both have their perks!

I read this series wayy back as a teenager and I was obsessed! Truly a hidden gem. I really need to get back into them myself, they also stopped translation after book 4 in my country and I didn't know how to order foreign books at the time, but now... :P

And as for what dragon I'd like to captain, honestly a courier class dragon sounds ideal!

@Alkyona Actually, I change my mind and totally I agree with you, courier class sounds perfect for me because I don't want to be in charge of a human crew lol

@Gryphiling I've read the first 3 books and loved them, omg someone else who has read them!! I like naval warfare and dragons so its the perfect series for me.Oneday when i have time and am not working all the time i will get back into reading them.I cant remember specfically all the breeds but a long wing would be a nice medium size, because in terms of warfare it would give me more agility and speed.Always up for a chat ab these books!

@OurFlame Ikr! The battles and action scenes are written so well, I've never felt like I couldn't understand what was happening. I'm on book #2 and they are so goood!

Did someone mention my favorite dragon book series? =)

Temeraire is so good and so well written and thought out. It's a shame that the books don't get the attention they deserve! They get drowned out by WoF and Eragon and other really popular book series and it's so disappointing. Not only is it a great twist on history (as someone familiar with the Napoleonic era and its history, it's a huge nerd fest for me) but it's also a fantastic concept with dragon/human relations and how intelligent, sapient dragons in a human world would function. Throne of Jade will actually dive very deep into this concept, so if you liked His Majesty's Dragon, then I'm excited for when you read book 2!

I love His Majesty's Dragon series, I haven't finish reading the entire series yet, I only read books 1,2,and 3. Then, I haven't gotten the time to read rest of the series and I think I need to re-read the 1,2,3 books again since its been a long while. I love Temeraire and Laurence relationship.

I been to collect the His Majesty's Dragon series books.
