Windsinger statues are very common on the Windswept Plateau. Created as an art piece for a past Mistral Jamboree, they've been a staple ever since. But a secret hides inside these artfully crafted effigies. Each and every year, magical winds caress their smooth stone surface, and unbeknownst to the dragons, slowly erode the material. During the height of one fateful festival the cracks finally showed. The statues crumbled and fell to dust, and dragons all around began to panic. The Windsinger statues, breaking during a festival? To many, it felt like a bad omen. The artists, the ones who created these gifts to the Windsinger, were the first to see what really happened: in place of the stone were now scales and cloud wisps. As their deity's winds slowly and continously petted their statues every year, they absorbed the ambient magic and turned into dragons themselves. These dragons were named for the cloud wisps rising from their bodies, which they use to draw paintings in the sky. Cloudpainters traditionally sculpt their own deity statues, in hopes the Windsinger breathes life into them. They often work on these in pairs and make them as detailed as possible, to increase the likelihood of impressing their deity. If they succeed, the statue slowly becomes a dragon over the course of a year. Cloudpainters born this way all look very similar – after all, they were made in the image of the Windsinger. Often these hatchlings differ from the standard Cloudpainter appearance. Their colors or patterns may be off, or they may even be born to a different element. Some Cloudchildren even lack their parents' ability to paint the skies. However, it is possible for that trait to reappear in future generations.
