Aryne, who previously was regarding you with a slight smile, widens his eyes as you ask this question. “Ahhh…you know, I’m very used to this kind of question, but most dragons want to know the why, not the when, so to speak.”
He blinks at you while ducking his head. “Well…it all started when I lived in the Twisting Crescendo as a hatchling, where my family lived in the higher layers of the storm. We were the navigators, who studied how to raise our clan’s village higher into the storm. It was something I never really took to, the psychics were always too abstract for me, and I’m not very good with magic."
“One day, I got separated from my family, and was struggling to fly against the winds by myself. As I began to start falling in my exhaustion, I heard a buzzing, and saw distant flashes of blue. I was initially scared, but could hear the buzzing quickly dying down. I suppose for most dragons, they would have just been thankful not to get swarmed by bugs, but I couldn’t help but wonder why the noise would be stopping so quickly. I think my mind was just looking for something to latch onto, I was really terrified."
"So, my tired wings glided over to where the sound was, and ran right into the back of a guardian! It turns out his Charge was a colony of Coral Carpenders that he kept on his back, and the noise I heard was them returning to him for the night. I certainly surprised him by nearly crashing into them, but he agreed to take me home. As we traveled, he told me more about the Carpenters, and I found his story enthralled. That these small animals could create homes to rival a Fea’s nest, despite possessing no magic, was astonishing to me. He kept me interested the whole way back to my clan’s village."
"I couldn’t stay away from insects after that. And other invertebrates too”. He holds up his Riptide Clipper as he says this, who lazily clambers over his paws. “I came to the Verdient Labyrinth as soon as I was old enough to live on my own, for there is no better place to be surrounded by insects great and small.” He meets your gaze again with the same slight smile as before. “I hope that answers your question”. He nods slightly, and turns to enter the kapok stump where the veilspuns make their nest.

The skydancer looks at the small feathercroak sleeping at her side. A wistful smile on her face. “I don’t think Gilgul is like me, I think they get to life their one life and be happy with that. Just when you have been reborn as much as I details can grow foggy. There are days where I have to hold the locket tighter before I can recall Clarity’s name. And she deserves better than that. So naming my pets Gilgul started as a convenience and became habit. Though that has its own issues, heh.”

Isotta turns their head toward you slowly and deliberately. Every muscle is pulled with ruminate intent, and they stare at you with intensity. Concentrated Wind magic twists out from their blank eyes, whipping across the sharpness of their scales and the contour of the ever-present skull mask like smoke caressing the ruins of a house. Isotta barely opens their mouth to speak, and when they finally begin their voice is low and monotone.
“Bamboo Falls is closest to where I spent my childhood, in the Zephyr Steppes, and it's closest to the Clan of Roaring Clouds as well. So there is a strong sense of familiarity in that venue. Even after traveling across Sornieth, the domain of the Windsinger is the realm I keep closest to my heart. Other than nostalgia, the Boreal Wood and Blooming Grove are quite beautiful. It can be…nice, to have a moment of calm. But I will say that favoritism does not stop me from upholding my duties no matter the location.
As for favorite weapons, I say it is foolish to not have multiple options for attack. The spear and halberd are the ones I have spent the most time with, and the shield is one of the most important tools at my disposal. Although sometimes a quick claw or bite is most effective."
