Hmmm, perhaps aywas? It didn't keep my attention for long ( I really disliked my mentor), but I see a few similarities with FR. For example there is a battle system.

There's Khimeros, a site with gorgeous art and MANY options of breeds, genes and customization. It's great, but if you want to be a cool kid there you'll need to spend lots of real money in custom khimeras and items... pretty pay-to-win. D:
Leayph is more or less like Khimeros, with creature breeding, genes and customization, but it is still a small site and more people should join it yo. You can also have a Human Avatar, get a job and contribute to the economy crafting clothes for creatures and avatars, food, books, and battle against other users.
BeastKeeper is cool too, I haven't been there for a while and I don't know what's going on there eh. Fantasy creature breeding, but with a big focus on genetics. Not just color or marks, but genes that specify the beast's strenght, or fire-breathing or whatever, and they can be positive or negative. It's kinda hard in the start, but entertaining.
Also WindRose? Really small petsite, but so cute! The art isn't great, but it's so unique and refreshing! It's based on botanic+astronomy+alchemy. The creatures are cute dog-cat-squirrel plant things and you create them with alchemy and MAGIC. idk it's a difficult game to play
Some random Neopets spawn that you might want to check because they're too cute to die: IcePets, Ichumon, Anatheria, Mycena Cave, BooPets, Verpets.

There's Sylestia, which has breeding and genetics like FR, but with a wide variety of animal types (foxes, birds, horses, etc). Been years since I played but I remember the art being lovely (and what wasn't, they've been revamping).

If you like a variety of animals and colour/gene combos then there's always Ovipets. It's got many species that you can breed for new colours and mutations with groups holding raffles, games, and contests! The site gets updated every now and then with new species
There's also the egg mechanic where you must turn your eggs every so often for them to hatch
