This, exactly. I still remember seeing Soap on release and thinking "omg FINALLY, something like Stained but in a different place!" cuz it just never crossed my mind they'd also make it a gem gene... what the heck.
Stained being free would be a matter of principle lol

practicality: basic. 10kt is basically free anyways
if it applied to everyone: underbelly. a very safe pick, and not a gem gene lmao
selfishly: obelisk bc and/or okapi <3
(side note. might be a weird opinion, but stained is NOT just a colored filter. it has to layer correctly with everything, and different colors have different opacities. i find it closer to genes that have accent colors, in that the wrong color WILL make or break a project)
