This is another one I've heard before, but I like the various headcanons about the different primal eyes, like some types making it impossible for the dragon to see, Plauge Primal being an elemental affliction that spreads and consumes the entire body, Shadow primal eventually draining completely and sapping the dragon of its elemental energy...
I think my favorite is the idea of Nature primal overgrowing and the dragon eventually becoming rooted in place.
But in general the idea of primal dragons being blessed with more elemental energy which causes them to quickly "burn out" is really interesting.

To add on this: In my hc Most primals are completely blind
It makes sense: if you got plants growing from your eyes, or your eyes are literally on fire, you likely couldn't see a thing with em. Same if they were constantly leaking shadow goop or basically organic flashlight, or eyes being frozen over enough to emit snowflakes. Earth's just looks like eye infection and water's is literally a tornado of tears, and i think we all can say that tears blur your eyesight a lot
Only ones i could maybe see not being blind are Plague and maybe arcane and wind though idk how viable galaxy eyes or windy eyes are when it comes to sight. Plague's is just... many eyes. They might have worse than average vision in singular eyes, but i feel they can still see(and have prob like 360 field of vision too)

I know exaltation's supposed to be an honor in canon, but I tend to interpret it as "the leadership
says it's an honor." Very different things, y'know?
In that vein, I've got
one bit on Nature exaltation done, where one of the causes of being considered exalted is being "called" to a sort of drone state, acting as the hands and eyes of the Behemoth/Labyrinth itself. It's not clear how willing the dragons are, nor how much of the original personality remains.

Beastclans and monsters carry around dragon eggs so that they can either crush them before they hatch or make sure they never hatch via other means. I mean, what other reason is there for beastclans, who are at war with dragons, to carry around dragon eggs?

Hatch dragon child, indoctrinate dragon child, unleash upon dragonkind. Obvs.

Exaltation is a very cheap, very easy way to get rid of a "troublesome" dragon or your kids who won't behave. And it's incentivized with money too.

The part of Plague where the meat dips into the ocean causes massive eutrophication and leeches viruses into the water, causing fish kills.

Gaolers (specifically the more fanatical groups who see hunting the Shade/Undead/Criminals/Whatever as their divine duty) can think of themselves as above/outside the law and behave in absolutely horrible ways because they think their job is so important they're not beholden to any laws, government, or rules. This can get especially messy in extradition cases or cases where a Gaoler works for both their flight and the Fortress of Ends...and they're so big and powerful that unless you're a large breed, you can't exactly stop them from taking you with them.

I've got one :)
All water dragons that are exalted get sent to serve under Tidelord, however in Tidelord's absence, the exalted have instead been sent to search for him in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Sure, all water dragons have some ability to breath underwater, and have some protections from the cold and pressure of the deep. Magic that runs in their veins, and is passed down to them by ancestry and magic being present within the water domain.
However, not every dragon that is exalted to the water domain is a water dragon, and those dragons don't have the same natural attributes as dragons born within the water domain do. Those dragons are still able to survive underwater to some extent due to Tidelord's magic, however in his absence, that magic has been fading.
Those dragons that don't naturally have the ability to survive underwater from heritage and hatching are then sent, by their water clan exalting them, to search for Tidelord without the protection that would normally exist if Tidelord weren't missing, and so, in places where magic is thin, dangerously thin if not absent, they succumb to the ocean.
A current might pull them down, as the magic that kept the ocean calm and the currents weak has faded.
Water pressure will suddenly have an effect on them as a defensive magic that had once been there is not.
The cold of the depths, where not even light can reach, will render them paralysed from the chill that seeps into their bones as the defence from it is absent.
They'll realise that the breaths that they were able to take previously, are now only gulps of water, and they no longer cannot breath water that is not filled with magic.
The ocean will claim them, now a merciless beast since its master is no longer holding it back.
And even more recently, it has gotten worse. Even worse than the magic serving as a safety net was rapidly fading. Water dragons who weren't as connected to their element, or were weaker in the fact that they were very old or very young have been meeting the same fate, going missing during their search for their deity.
The oceans are no longer calm, as more and more storms churn the ocean. Water magic becomes unstable, and requires more and more strength to control. Some water flight dragons have even abandoned their element, whether out of shame, fear, or anger at the fact that they believe their deity has abandoned them.
A maelstorm churns...

When you gene a dragon, they physically feel the pain of the skin, genes and dna changing and it hurts like hell
