In the early morning light, a pair of dragons stood anxiously over a warm, sheltered nest. Deep blue and bright green eyes were fixated excitedly on the three little eggs within, two of which had already begun to shake and rock back and forth. Vinha and her beloved Amorra had wished for a little while now for hatchlings of their own. Yet, with Amorra lacking any of the inborn magic the dragons of Sornieth were naturally expected to have, even being the descendant of two powerful mages, a nest was simply something it seemed that they could not have. The two were ready to simply give up and put the idea behind them after a while, but their good friend Viktoria offered to use her own magic to aid them upon hearing of their plight. And now, after a wait that seemed to last an eternity... they were finally ready to hatch. Vinha and Amorra’s very first children; they were going to be mothers, officially, for the very first time! The thought filled both with such joy, yet anxiety. Though two of them seemed to be racing each other to hatch first, the first hatchling to emerge, bearded and majestic, burst into the world with a triumphant squeak, immediately toddling up on wobbly legs, shaking himself of any clinging bits of eggshell, and standing proudly with fins flared. The second one tumbled out mere seconds later, bursting from her egg with such force that she immediately collided right into her brother, bowling him over. He squeaked at her indignantly, swatting at his sister with a paw, but the bright pink hatchling stood on top of him and held her head high as if to say, “Ha! I win!” Only when its two siblings had emerged did the third egg then begin to crack. It hatched at a steady enough pace, yet took its time compared to its siblings. A few moments later, the shell burst open, and the rusty-coloured hatchling stuck out her head, looking around, before calmly crawling the rest of the way into the open. She cast a glance to her siblings, but frowned at their chaotic antics, instead crawling straight to her watching mothers, where she nestled herself between them and tucked herself into the warmth of Amorra’s mane, closing her eyes with a sigh. Being a sibling was going to be hard work. —Written by Sectonia |
