"Was it all worth it? I don't know, not anymore. Perhaps it would've been better to leave things as they were. Maybe then you'd still be here, brother, and I wouldn't be alone."
Zenith stood before her brother's grave, alone save for the stars above. Only a day had passed since she exchanged her wolf-skin cloak and quiver for the finest silks and jewels still in the clan's possession and a crown she refused to wear. Only a week had passed since the end of the war, and the end of her brother's life.
"I just... don't know what to do. I did all of this to save everyone from her. To save you from her. And yet... you still died. So many died. Why...?"
She took a deep, shuddering breath. The air here... it was so warm, so different from the frigid cold that she called home for the decades that Temptress ruled, yet nothing could bring warmth to the chilling emptiness she felt within.
"WHY?!" she screamed, stiffening, claws gouging the charred earth below, no longer caring if anyone discovered her here. "Why... Why did you have to die, brother?! Why did I..."
The rage faded as swiftly as her brother's life had after that blow, sending her onto the dirt as her legs buckled, tears streaming down her face and quiet sobs wracking her body. Her breath came in broken gasps, the full gravity of it all striking her right then, and she felt the remains of her heart being rendered further apart.
"...I wonder... Did you even remember me? When you met my gaze for the first time in decades, did you know who I was? Or... or had she taken so much of you away that you no longer knew me, your sister? I just..."
"I'm sorry. I... failed you. I... failed all of you," she whispered, turning her still-tearful gaze to the sky, hoping they'd all found their peace in death.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," she answered, forcing a smile. Fingael must have known it was fake judging from the look on his face, but the Spiral pressed no more.
"Zen, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, you don't need to worry."
"But-"
"Fingael, I'm fine. I promise."
"Zen. Zen, look at me. Please, please look at me."
"...I'm okay, Fin. Really."
"I don't believe you."
"Fingael-"
"Listen to me, alright?! No one's going to be okay after that. I've given you time, I've given you space, and all I've watched you do is destroy yourself even more. Yell at me all you want, I'm not leaving this time. Not until you get help."
"Fin, please, just-"
"I'm not leaving."
"I wasn't going to ask you to."
"You're lying."
"I- Well, fine! I was lying! Please, please, please Fingael, just leave! I'm... I'm..."
"I'm not leaving."
"Then... Then I... I'll make you."
"Do it, then. Take that anger of yours out on someone else."
"Fin-"
"It's all my fault, isn't it? Your brother died because of me. If I wasn't there at that battle, he'd still be here. IF I HADN'T BEEN THERE, YOU WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO K-"
"SHUT UP AND JUST LEAVE, FINGAEL!"
"Will he be alright, Zarasti?"
"He'll be fine. The cut is superficial, and Fingael is tough. My Queen... I won't ask what caused this, but I hope it serves as a lesson for you."
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. I've gotten worse from those damn Wartoads I fight for my work."
"Alright..."
"Are you alright, Zen?"
"I... no, no I'm not."
"I'll go with you, alright?"
"...Okay."
"Please, Fin, stay with me."
"You know I can't. I'm sorry."
"Promise you'll visit, at least?"
"Nothing in the world could stop me."
