The sands are ever-shifting. Empires rising and collapsing into ruins within the great dunes, leaving behind nothing but a name. Great cliffs and plateaus crumbling and falling into ravines, new canyons splitting the earth. Trails being tamped down and then blown over as the wind throws dust in great waves.

He clings to the last symbol of humanity. To leave behind a map even as you leave a place, not so you can return, but so that others can follow.

They say that the desert cannot be mapped.
