    苦难 (kunan) MISERY

The ground is blotchy with bones. Some of them are decorative, carved with loops and swirls and strange glyphs that resonate with meaning. Others are mere playthings, teeth leaving their mark in long grating scratches, cracked and broken, their marrow sucked out. They are arranged in cryptic patterns, circles around pools of bubbling green goop and narrow paths wandering through skeleton trees and piles of bones in corners of rocks that jut out of the ground like teeth.

No dragon is in sight, but at a single sound of an intruder, they begin to emerge, teeth bared in unfriendly snares and tails that whip against the ground, making rocks and debris jump in terror. A golden guardian stares at you, feathers ruffled and red eyes narrowed and claws that are long and sharp and permanently stained with blood.

What is your business here? she askes in a quiet hiss, clearly uninviting and unwanted.

A large cream-colored guardian looms over her shoulder, dwarfing her, but it is the grey tundra and his curious stare and the small golden one that scares you. Her lips curl up in a small derisive smile as her eyes inspect you, judging every weakness and flaw. Then the golden guardian speaks again, low and soft, but it is a voice that demands to be heard, who is used to her power.

So you have heard of our clan, have you? But be warned. The weak and the soft have marked their graves here, in bones scarred with their story. We are of exiles and loners, unaccepted by others. Here, you will have a hard life, of fights of power and rituals of blood. But if you prove yourself true, in exchange for your loyalty and allegiance, you can find yourself a home.
