Hmmm, well I kind of enjoyed it at the time (I enjoy most movies from the spectacle alone), though it wasn’t as memorable as the first or second movies to me. I really didn’t like the message of the ending, that dragons would be locked away until we deserved them rather than working together to protect humans and dragons from bad actors.

I kinda liked the themes of independence, with Toothless getting his automatic tail fin and starting his own life, no longer forced to be with Hiccup. That’s a good setup for showing ‘your friends can have their own lives while also being your friend. I can also see the theme of self-sacrifice for the greater good. But it felt a bit sour that this independence soon meant leaving him completely. Sent a bit of a weird message, ‘let your friends go then completely abandon them for their safety’. Ah well, in my mind, they’re still flying free and growing old together.

Yeah, and the scene at the end with the blindfold flying then the ice breaking is pretty cool.

That whole scene of them reuniting then singing is so good and makes what happens next sting so much worse. 10/10 movie.

I just went to go listen to the orchestration and it was as beautiful as the day I last listened to it. Only 6 minutes, it’s more of a mashup of each major theme flowing into the next, definitely check it out when you can!

The second movie was my favourite too. The marriage song was actually one of the first songs I learnt to play on my lyre harp. I love the soundtrack for the films, I recommend ‘Take to the Skies’ by Rush Garcia on YouTube and Spotify, it’s an orchestral composition of many of the songs across the soundtrack and is absolutely beautiful.
