Here's a simple gene idea: countershaded. Have a gradient from the darkest portion of the color at the back to the lightest portion at the belly, without harsh separation between the two. Like Fade, but without pulling accent colors. Maybe add a grainier texture, since I'm thinking about shark coloring for this one and they have rough scales.
The secondary would be the same color, but lighter towards the inside of the wind, and darker towards the edges (plus dark outer color).

Red panda primary gene perhaps? I love their face markings, so cute! Their leg markings, I feel, will also add a nice touch too. Red pandas have a simple but adorable pattern!

Looks like it's been suggested before but not recently, Clownfish! Actually if this were a pair of Primary and Secondary genes I might suggest that "Clownfish" be the name of the secondary so as to not interfere with searches for "Primary gene: Clown."
But alternatively, since clownfish patterns are already made up of several colors, maybe Clownfish would work better as a tertiary gene that picks a main and accent color for the black and white stripes, and leaves the orange part blank to show off the primary underneath! In fact, I might actually like that idea more than Clownfish as a primary/secondary pair!

Something based off of agate, bands and rings of colors and strips of accent colors with a glossy finish. Horns/spines in the base color and tipped with accent color. Including secondary as well. While it's shiny I think it would be nice to not a be a gem gene as we only have one shiny gene that's not gem (capsule). Perhaps a Baldwin/Swipp gene that's recipe calls for a lot of agate items (eye agate, fortification agate, malachite agate) or perhaps even obtained from digging/scavenging as we don't have a gathering gene yet and this would work well for that.

This is absolutely gorgeous, I could see it becoming one of my favorite genes if it were added! I'd also want to see it on Aberrations considering how well it would fit a fandragon I've had in mind [emoji=aberration winking size=1]

!! signature under construction !!
I would love more genes that behave like piebald/paint and pharaoh/sarcophagus and add a strong white or black.
What about something based on the markings of
starry night reed frogs?

Hi i would like to see something like Acrylic/glass for primary/secondary genes. I like what wasp does to wings but not always the bug wing markings. Make em look like glass dragons
Edit: Imagine what stained and soap would do to these genes!!!

I'm assuming this is a common suggestion, but we need a primary gene for scales! Pretty much exactly like the tertiary scales but for the whole body

Okay, hear me out. Panda! I think a panda primary would be absolutely adorable!!!!

I think a gene for the dog breed the Australian Shepherd would be pretty cool

could be a prim/sec type thing where you call it merle/splotch or splotch/tics something like that

Alternatively what about a panda tertiary? On the one hand I think it lends itself to that but on the other those would be some large areas of flat color next to possibly-not-matching Primary patterns below (except that some would work really well ahaha).
Curious what other color would be used since you would need two colors or shades for this as a Primary. Lighter version of the official color for the white part? White part always white like Piebald? Accent color for one of them?
