Can we get a list of where non-English languages can be used and where they cannot?
A friend of mine just noticed that after profile update, we no longer able to use non-English characters for our broadcast message (where we set up on our profile below xxx's clan title). We used to be able to type any languages there, but now if a non-English character is used it'll show up as ? once saved.
Because of this I went to each dragon's profile page and realized we cannot use non-English characters for dragon's broadcast message either (which replaces the 'level 1 skydancer' message under dragon's name). I cannot remember if this has always been the case since lair update, or if this is a new thing after profile update though. While I can somewhat guessed why this is the case, I still think it would be a good thing to give users a list of where one can use different languages and where other characters are not supported.
That being said, I'm NOT suggesting the site to have a uniform blanket restriction on non-English languages use over all areas. I still like to retend the ability to use non-English languages on parts of the site (especially dragon bio and clan profile). I just to want staff to be more clear on what is allowed and what is not before we try to change anything.

Frankly, I'm going to guess that part of the whole site rewrite is going to end up with a complete ban on non-English characters simply to make moderation easier. I've seen way too many people posting inappropriate content all over the place and hiding it in plain sight by using intentional misspelling and non-English characters. We're all jerks and we're abusing the nice things we have.
The "if you try to change existing non-English it won't let you do anything but English" is significantly easier than going through everything on site to remove all non-English. We'd be stuck in boring maintenance for a day or longer.
All that being said, clarity on what's going on would be a good thing unless telling us in the middle of all the planned changes is going to cause us to lose our minds and start getting in all the soon to be banned stuff before it gets banned.
Sort of like announcing "we'll be increasing the fine for graffiti in a specific area in two weeks and we'll be increasing the fine in all other areas later."

I want to live in Theory. Everything works there.
Have you checked the
Gem MP for Gene and Breed scrolls before buying an AH listing from me ending in
5g?
While I totally understand the need for this restriction on forums since it's public, I do still hope it won't get to that point with dragon profiles. A lot of people playing FR isn't English-fluent and this will kill their motivation for playing any more if they cannot write their lore in a language they understand.
If announcing a change in the middle of all planned causes possible rush of abuse, it would at least be a good thing to tell us with the update announcement. I mean, finding broadcast message no longer supports non-English from trying to change it and realized it turns to ???? isn't the best way of service. If it is announced with the change, at least players know it's now the case and would not be struck unprepared.

That's odd, my broadcast message is in Cyrillic and shows up fine??? It even no longer glitches out in Forums, when my picture is hovered over, which it did before.
I would rather they didn't ban all non English language across the site though... It would ruin so many of my dragons bio pages. :C

i have some non-english characters scattered through my dragon bios (musicians / song titles) and they still work. i even deliberately cut and pasted the korean characters from one bio into a fresh one to make sure it wasnt just that it was grandfathered because i hadn't changed it yet. repeated the same test on my own profile.
it worked in both places. so profiles seem to still be fair game.

purpletartan have you changed your broadcast message since the update? stuff that was already in place prior to the rollout won't have been affected because it hasn't been 'updated' in the system yet. i just had the same characters that worked across all profiles fail in both dragon & profile broadcast messages when i tried to do it new.

Hello everyone! Clan Broadcasts are limited to basic ASCII. This change was made as comprehensive (non-basic) character support gave players multiple methods to circumvent and exploit our filters, and frequently.
As this was a site moderation decision based on player behavior history—not a language support decision—we did not announce it with the update. But we recognize this change was disruptive for you, and we apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this change caused our multi-lingual players.
