I saw a post of someone showing off a dragon and when I clicked on the dragon the "you are not allowed to view this user's profile" message popped up. SO basically that user had me blocked but I still could see their forum post lol (i had never seen that guy before so idk why i was blocked but oh well)

Yeah, this has happened to me. It really had me scratching my head wondering how I might have offended them ...??? (And I was ready to Like their dragon, too!)

It's to deal with harassment, I feel. Let's say someone who hosts a Dominance raffle has you blocked. Suddenly you can't interact with the raffle unless you get the spreadsheet link from someone and if you get pulled in the raffle you won't know (don't think you'd get the ping) and also wouldn't be able to post to pick a prize in the first place. However, this knowledge also means you know, with ease, someone has blocked you (as opposed to the current system of finding out when you try to interact with their profile), which can lead others to harassing the user off-site.
The current system can definitely be reworked, and many people have posted their ideas in the Suggestions board. You can even submit a ticket through Contact Us if you're more comfortable with that. I have a feeling a rework will be visited when the Clan Profile revamp is launched, so all we can do right now is wait.

You get to curate your forum experience, you don't get to curate others (and potentially lock them out of major player-run features and events). While I agree with many suggestions that there should be more tiers, it seems reasonable to me that they can see your posts.
They can't interact with you because they can't comment, PM, buy your auctions and anything they post is just blanked out.

This is actually becoming pretty normal on sites, and honestly I prefer it this way. Not every block is over a serious issue, in fact many are over minor "I don't like how X talks / don't like their primal / they have a gif in their sig."
Blocking someone should not effect their experience on the site. Thankfully the blocker will only see the "this person is blocked" text and can just ignore that they exist at all.

Most people who get blocked would go on with their day.
I am not most people, it seems.
Whenever I get blocked by a stranger I'm like "WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS I HAVE NEVER MET YOU BEFORE IN MY LIFE I DONT EVEN KNOW WHO YOU ARE"

I'm rather glad of it. I know I am blocked by several people. People tend to think I am rude, or that I am trying to start stuff.. It's simply neurodivergent vs neurotypical interpretation. I rarely mean more than what I actually wrote, but it happens. And I am okay with that, I am used to it, I've had plenty of altercation IRL where I missed the issue. But I would have to leave FR if every other post was unreadable.. I really don't need constant reminder of my social shortcomings.

I don’t understand this. Blocking someone is to curate your experience, not to punish them for whatever perceived offense. When you block you get them out of your FR life; I don’t understand why you would want to have further control(read: interaction) with them by censoring their information in a public space.
If my take is unclear: think a social media star and their fan’s relationship. The star does not have the fan in their life, thereby making their personal nature irrelevant, while the fan is content with just watching the star and will not make further action to harass them.

One day, will these too become but distant memories?
. . .
Yes, in the blink of an eye.
jumping off the above, the only ultimate reason i can think for a block to also prevent them from seeing your posts is if this individual is harassing you on the forums themselves, which id imagine would get dealt with pretty swiftly and seen as a big social faux pas by everyone else witnessing.
i definitely get it considering a lot of social medias allow you to block people from viewing your profile and posts (though they can literally just log out, but w/e), BUT the difference is your social media account is not inherently part of a public forum - people choose (mostly) who they get to see and you can always get the info from someone else. but on a forum based game, its definitely important to be able to see a lot of the information people share. thats my thoughts!

We kinda get it. It'd suck to be unable to see important or useful threads such as guides, bug reports or dom related things because the poster has blocked you.

Excellent point. This isn't really like social media where you block someone's profile and you don't see their content and just don't talk to them. This is about public forums, this is about public content that they might post which might be of importance. I've been completely neutral on this topic until I've read through some of these comments, now I'm all for the current system. Honestly, if someone blocks me, fine; I won't be able to see their lair, I won't be able to buy anything from them, they won't see my posts, blah blah it's for their personal experience. They are the ones who choose not to see my posts. I on the other hand choose my forum experience and that is to still see their forum posts. I know some people who've blocked me and they post in the forums, and those things were of value to me.

I block a lot of people just based on forum sigs that bother me, not anything personal, and it would be unfair for me to be able to lock them out of discussions. I can also see this being a great way to target certain players if implemented, imagine being mass blocked by a lot of players and then not being able to participate in the majority of forum threads

This is normal. It's because it's a forum, it's how forums work. Cheers.
