Bioluminescence as a tertiary gene for Undertide's, I might attempt a mock-up soon, but basically bright, glowy markings similar to the ones naturally present on many deep sea fish.

I quickly threw this together. Ivory plaid over berry checkers/chess.

LITERALLY. I actually came here to suggest a slight alternative - FLOOR TILES. A tertiary that compliments the rectangles on both the wings and the body, with cute little swirlies, leaves or whatnot and perhaps cracks.
