I’ve noticed a lot of “friend clubs” popping up and being locked in General Discussion for not having a subject. I think that it would be nice to have a forum where people can chat with their friends without having a subject to talk about, so that they don’t flood General Discussion and then get locked, forcing people to go off-topic on threads that have a subject, or chat on huge threads where it’s hard to hold a conversation because it’s not a small group of people posting.
This would be like any forum, where anyone can see what’s happening and join in any thread, so it would not be any harder to moderate than the other forums. The rules, would be the same as other forums, obviously.
Sorry if this is a bad suggestion, it’s early in the morning and I’m tired from a big trip yesterday. This is my first suggestion, so try not to be too harsh.
Edit: If another forum can’t be created, then the rules could be changed to allow clubs on General Discussion.

I think there's better venues for chats like this (Discord for example). There's no need to have a random chat forum.

Some people may not want to download another app just to chat, but that’s true.

To be honest, I don't really feel that forums really lend themselves to 'random chat can change at a moment's notice' type threads.
Since the original conversations 'hang around' it means that most people who come onto the thread, will reply to the original conversation rather than what it is about at the particular moment they post. This means that not only can people get pinged for things they no longer feel, but it can also revive things that are better left unrevived.
As an example: On FRD there was a thread about why do people exalt. It was started like 3 or so years ago when the thread OP was new. People went on, and gave why they exalt dragons etc.. and the OP changed their mind about exalting, and realized why other people would exalt, and I think became an exalter themselves.
Fast foward a year or two later, someone revives it, pings the OP, and it starts all over again. I don't remember whether the person who pinged the OP was for or against exalting, but basically it started a round of new pings to the OP to explain, and since people have become tired of being 'called out' for exalting, some of them were somewhat snarky, even though later in the thread, the OP said that they had changed their minds.
I could see this happening with these 'club' threads that don't have a specific topic. People come on, read the first page, and then respond, even though the topic has moved on.

No support, seems similar to the private forums post from last week, which I still don't find either of which to be feasible moderation-wise. Also, discord can be used browser- only, if the app thing is a concern

In my suggestion, I specifically said that it wouldn’t be private and would be moderated normally with the same rules as the other forums. Thanks for the tip about Discord.

I understand wanting FR activities to remain on site, since not everyone wants to register for a Discord account as an alternative to posting in/creating a thread :P especially since Discord and a forum thread are fairly different and more people may prefer a traditional thread. So I do think a club/common interest forum would be nice. Currently most of those threads are in General discussion but general discussion is so broad that having it split into another category I think would work out fine. :)

i don't remember which site had a guild system...was it neopets? but i thought that was a neat concept. i can see something like that here, with all the merc companies and different groups that players make. i can't comment on how moderating would be, as long as it it's all public to everyone, although you have to join to post in them, then maybe? players should be able to make flight only ones too, for those flights that operate in groups rather than a combined effort.

amazing opportunity for a subforum called "Clubs and Hubs". Aw yeah, the rhyming, can't go wrong.
Anyway support. People who don't want discord, or teenagers who aren't allowed to use chat programs (my parents didn't let up on that until i was TWENTY) could have a place to talk to their friends - Nothing wrong with that.

i'm not that comfortable in discord servers so a clubs subforum would be great for discussing my interests in an environment i can trust to be moderated
