Working off Almedha's point:
Since you can't block a gene if a dragon is wearing apparel, it would probably just be easier to have a site function where a user could block entire dragons from showing up if they had a gene or eye type that bothered them.
I will say that if you have a phobia that is so bad it prevents you from browsing a website, if you can, seek out a good therapist. Ex-Arachnaphobe here. Proper phobia therapy changed my life for the better. There's a spider living above my door inside my apartment. His name is Fred. 10 years ago, I wouldn't be able to walk under him. You should not have to live with that kind of stress, but I do understand that therapy is not cheap :(. Hang in there, y'all.

I hate to say it because I'm a big supporter of accessibility, but I have to say no support because I don't think censorship would actually be that helpful. Others have already brought up potential lag as a downside, but the major problem I see is that there would be no way to prevent those genes/eye types/apparel/fams/etc from showing up in images. Images are such a big part of the site [fanart, scrys, hatcheries, etc] that the only way to avoid them would be the same way to avoid the genes in the first place - enjoy Flight Rising in places where you can be sure to avoid triggers [discord servers, friend groups, etc].
I would compare Flight Rising like an art site because of all the user-made content. You can prevent users from posting extremely triggering content, like heavy gore and nsfw, but specific triggers can only be avoided by self-moderation.
Also agree with above to put your mental/physical health above a game, whether that's by finding workarounds on the site [ex: sticking to your lair and browsing dragons in say, a discord server where you can trigger-tag], or by taking a break.

Me, working from a position of pure ignorance:
I don't even know if that'd work, because there's nothing about the image that says it has this-or-that gene or eye type. It's just an image. Now, I think it might work on the dragon's personal page, I have no idea how that works. But everywhere else, it would require a lot of checking and therefore a lot of lag even to block the whole picture for one of its many parts. It's the "look to see if the gene is there" part that causes the problem, not the "when this is supposed to display, display this instead" part.

Not everyone is ready for exposure therapy nor does everyone recover from PTSD in the same way. Not to mention recovering from OCD, SPD, or other triggers and phobias are different from PTSD triggers.
[/quote]
^This. As someone with PTSD, exposure therapy actually has not helped in my case but made it worse, and the best I can do is avoid my specific triggers rather than keep shoving them in my face (no I'm not saying what they are). People recover differently, mental health issues are not a one-size-fits-all thing, thanks.
Also, a lot of the complaints being made about genes/eyes/whatever have nothing to do with PTSD and have a lot to do with tryptophobia, which is not even so much a fear as it's a way your brain processes certain shape patterns. I know people who get physically ill or dizzy from Jag/Ros. It's not being "overly sensitive", it's a brain processing issue that they didn't ask for.
So while I do have some concerns about where the line is and the slippery slope of what else gets censored (breeds, skins/accents), I tentatively support a toggle that would replace [Gene X] with Basic when viewing. Now, implementing that would be very, very hard, a lot of coding involved. But, it's an accessibility issue, IMO.

Even a someone with sensitivity issues I can't support this. It would with block out an entire dragon or create a huge lag. Besides we have search for a reason. You would just see the dragons with genes you wanted.

Please call me Ace. ALWAYS PING IF NOT MY FOURM..it helps me respond easier.
this would still be really good to have.
gene filter, skin filter, eye filter, apparel filter. it would help a lot of users!

The thing is, dragon images are generated fresh and then laid flat. It might be one thing if you already viewed the image and stored it in the cache, but for someone seeing a new image, it's generated fresh based on genes and colors and whatnot. So all FR would have to code is something like "If gene is hypnotic, display as basic" for people who choose the filter. Apparel wouldn't be an issue.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
Support. Keel makes my physically uncomfortable. I honestly dont get why this would be a massive issue either? It only affects you so I dont understand how this could have a downside. I guess buying a dragon you didn’t know had that gene? Even then I’m pretty sure there are pretty easy ways to avoid that...

I get too many pings, please PM if you ping and I don’t respond
Either that, or a censor that censors all the dragon, with an option on there that allows you to click and ''view the dragon anyway'' (some people are ok with seeing their phobia as long as it's been warned before hand). As Jemadar said, maybe it could be a swiftwing pictures with a text box overlayed on top of it to reveal the image if desired?
I'm ok with every breed/eyes/genes being able to be censored. I wouldn't use it but I wouldn't mind it being added to the site either.

This has been brought up before, and I don't really see what the problem is. If you bought a dragon that has a gene you don't like, because you didn't see that gene, then you still wouldn't see that gene. Yeah, you might see in the characteristics that it has that gene, but it ultimately wouldn't matter because you wouldn't see that gene.
Yeah, to get others to see the dragon how you see it, you would need to buy a basic gene, but if you liked the dragon that much, you potentially would have bought it anyway, and bought the gene.
otherwise, it just comes down to a matter of 'buyer beware' and double checking things before you buy, which is a good thing to do anyway
