Alright I had a thought.. might be silly but here goes
If the amount of lairspace pr player is limited for which ever reason then this could maybe be a solution
There are ppl out there which unlike collectors HATE the idea of a big lair. Let them sell THEIR lairspace to others.
example
Liam (example of user name) wants a small lair and really dislike having the option to expand to 210. Liam chooses to set 150 of his lairspace up for auction
Gert (Example of name) buys the lairspace which then are added to the lairspace he originally has
Cons:
Liam will never be able to get the 150 lairspaces back unless he buys lairspace from someone.
Pros:
Liam can feel an achivement of completing/maxing out his lair even if he wants a small lair. He no longer has to feel he is missing something as he wont be able to expand unless he buys lairspace from someone else
not even sure this is doable but I thought of it in bed last night and decided to post it

That could be a work-around. Not sure everyone likes the idea of uneven potential lair spaces but this sure is an idea to ponder upon.
I'm on the fence. I'm sure there are always people out there seeing this as an opportunity for quick cash, sell their lair spaces, then later regret about it and complain. There will always be players thinking this will only benefit those who are rich, or too close to pay-to-win. Maybe limit the number of spaces that are sell-able, and keep a certain amount of lair spaces account-bound?

when you have the "let's sell lair space slots", that would mainly benefit the richer players into having more lair slots. in fact, i like how there is a limit for everyone to have the same amount of lair space that can be unlock-able / achievable. this way, anyone can have as many dragons as any other user because that is kept constant. you aren't getting ahead of anyone else by having more lair slots.
so my response to your new thought is still, no support.

I have to say that the thought of selling lair slots to other players is rather iffy to me.
For one, I can see a lot of new players thinking 'hey, these players are paying *millions* for lair slots, and I only paid 100K to get these, and I won't use them, so lets make some money' then later on in the game, after realizing 'hey I LOVE *breed/sex/gene combo and want a million of them' they find out 'how come everyone else can have X slots, but I can only have X - *whatever was sold*!'.
Older players that sell lair spaces for 'quick cash' are one thing, but new players will often not realize the consequences later on and people can change their minds.
Plus, unless it was VERY restrictive, IE, in order to sell lair slots, you have to have already expanded to max (which could be problematic when/if they add more lair slots, because the max lair will have increased making it harder for players to now reach this max lair to sell spaces) and could only sell them for what you paid for them, I could easily see this being abused.
Person is at max lair space, wants to buy cheap lair space from others, but hey! everyone quickly realized there are old players out there who are willing to pay a premium price for their lair slots, so they are only selling for a lot of money. Person realizes, why should I buy from them when I can make throwaway accounts, toss some money at them (or earn the money on the account) and in a couple of days have some cheap lair slots I can buy.
Or have some of the older players 'preying' on new players encouraging them to expand and they will pay 5% over (or 10%) cost for the lair slots, before the new players even realize what is going on in the game (and believe me, if you think about what some players did for special ID dragons, there would definitely be people who would have threads trying to get new players to sell them their lair space for a profit, but way below value)
Then there is the issue of how would it work. Say you are at 150 lair slots, sell 50 slots, what would the price be to go back to 110 lair slots? would it still be at the same price as before, or would the price diminish back to what ever the expansion price is to go from 100 to 110 slots? I assume that the price would remain the same, but it is something to think about.

I agree with Jemadar above--namely, the ability to buy and sell lair slots will lead to multi accounting. So no support.

Pings are disabled.
If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
Even if these are crazy numbers, I definetely need that much! But as the others state, adding so much space is... difficult.
Anyway I definetely support this because you never can have anough space!

Must admit that I did it was purely a stray thought I had about selling lairspace. It came as a possible solution if we- for whatever reason - could not have as many active dragons as familiars - pref more but i can live with that.
If it ever became an option to buy other ppls lairspace there would defo need to be some rules
Though I would prefer having more lairspace and hibernal den space added to the game but it seems to be some problems with that ...
Another solution would to abolish the feeding all together.. would require a major overhaul of the gathering system and a solution to energy/health which I cannot give

I think dragons of up to 1000 is a bit too much imo. 200 dragons is a good amount and it would put stress on the server to increase the lair space to a much higher number.
However, I personally think some of the available slots in the hibernal lair should be transferred to the regular lair for aesthetic purposes.

oo, that's an interesting idea! i could see some flaws from implementing this but i like the overall idea of it.

I don't really see how having more lair spaces will be taxing to the system, since very few people will actually get to that level. It's very expensive, and a lot of people simply prefer having smaller lairs anyways.
I've been playing for 7 years and I only have 120 lair spaces, since I'm someone who is constantly purging old and buying new dragons. I wouldn't mind having some more room, but I don't see myself reaching the cap any time soon and a lot of other players probably feel the same way. Extreme collectors are in the minority of FR players.
So I think having more lair space available for the few users who would actually use it isn't a bad idea!
I don't really support the "selling your lair space to others" suggestion, because sometimes, the seller will want that lair space back and they won't be able to get it unless they buy it from someone else. That might lead to newer players, or people who have small lairs now but may wish to have bigger ones in the future, making very regrettable mistakes and I can imagine it might cause drama and resentment. Or encourage multi accounting, as others in this thread have said.
