I'm sure there's some back-end stuff folks have figured out as to why we can't re-name Unnamed offspring once it's exalted... so I'm wondering if there's a way to code the site to ignore Unnamed dragons in the Offspring tab. (Maybe a toggle option?)
The toggle ability would be a nice way to give everyone what they want- folks who like to look at their exalted dragons can still do so, folks buying an expensive G1 can still double-check that they are in fact unbred, and folks with different aesthetics regarding use of Unnamed in lore can get along.
In addition, it might add an even more interesting value to dragons... I can definitely see dragons with 'perfect' lists (named or unnamed) becoming a commodity for lore or aesthetic reasons, instead of as a basic necessity for salability in either community if one could simply toggle the Unnamed dragons on and off. Everyone wins!
Hoping this helps. I personally find the inability to go back and name Unnamed offspring a frustrating quirk of the site but definitely understand that just blanket fixing that might be rough for many reasons. I'm hoping the idea of a toggle would be at least worth the effort in terms of pleasing the majority of the userbase compared to some other blanket solutions. ;w;
EDIT/FAQ:
1.) Okay, I've reviewed some older threads on the topic and didn't actually realize some people do it for lore purposes! Not suggesting these folks' taste/gameplay are an issue- it's mostly an issue when two people with two different aesthetics butt heads. Both are valid! Hence... the toggle suggestion~ (I've edited the original to fix the wording so it doesn't read aggressive towards unnamed dragons- my bad, and thank you for pointing that out! <3)
2.) I didn't realize a toggle has been done before, so if anyone has any solutions to lag, that would be super cool! Maybe an option to turn the lists off for your entire account? Maybe roll it out in pieces to decrease server load? What are your suggestions? : )
3.) I'm gonna go ahead and just say in advance that it's well and good to do the whole 'it's your responsibility' thing, but I'm thinking specifically of folks who have difficulty with motor control and memory recall. I'd love a solution that makes the game at least a little less finite- I have some issues with recall myself and I do not use Unnamed as an aesthetic.

Fun Fact: In the past the admins had added the option to hide exalted offspring. It lasted about an hour due to severe lag.
That being said if they are ever able to work it out so it doesn’t cause lag I am a huge fan of he idea of being able to
customize offspring lists, that way players can hide exalted offspring, Unnamed offspring, or any offspring that they desire. Being able to customize the offspring list would give far more options to a variety of players over just hiding Unnamed dragons (as there are far worse names than Unnamed)
Edit: If you exalted a dragon Unnamed you can use the recover exalt self service to recover the dragon and name it. There are limits to how often you can do it.
The reason you can’t name exalted offspring is exalted dragons belong to the player that exalted them as they are still tied to the exalters account.

Well it all depends. If you exalted the dragon, I do believe you should be able to rename it, however, if you sold the dragon unnamed (or bought the dragon with unnamed offspring already) then you shouldn't be able to rename them. I don't know about the coding, but I am sure that it wouldn't be THAT difficult to allow players to rename dragons they exalted, but it would require several things, such as the ability to find said dragons.
This has been tried before, about hiding offspring, and I believe it crashed the site, literally. If they can ever get it fixed, I would love to have it come back, but not just for unnamed.
There are many, many MANY other names besides unnamed that people don't want on their offspring lists, so I would like either a completely customizable one, where I can choose the names I want to hide, or just a blanket hide offspring lists.
I don't want to have anything that makes Unnamed an even more 'undesirable' name, and creating a mechanic to hide only unnamed would give the impression that there is something wrong with unnamed dragons, which there isn't.

Jemadar You know, I didn't really consider that Unnamed offspring might be an aesthetic thing- which I can totally respect! Honestly, I only suggested hiding the Unnamed dragons in particular simply because of coding reasons. I don't know much about coding, but I thought that it might be less strain on the server to ask it to treat Unnamed dragons like an invisible stat you could toggle on and off compared to the entire offspring list- I was not around for the toggle era, but it just makes sense to limit server recall!
Also, I feel like there's a flip side- it might even make dragons with offspring lists that are made up completely of Unnamed dragons to be a commodity for lore reasons too, both in and out of the Unnamed community. Ghost offspring? Exiled dragons? Eldritch horror dragons? Colonies of Unnamed? Wandering dragons? Monks? Devout leaders? Elemental demi-gods? Unfaithful partners?
I have to admit I'm not 100% caught up on how that aesthetic works lore-wise, and I could be wrong here, but an Unnamed-specific toggle might be an interesting mechanic allowing for even more lore-related shenanigans to go down, rather than detracting from the value. :> I do apologize for presenting it that way though, that was definitely a short-sighted presentation and I've altered the original post. I imagine the bickering over it must get tiresome.

DragonSage Heck yeah, the ability to customize it would be awesomeeee. I was not around for the toggle era... Interesting! It definitely seems like the easiest solution with the most amount of compromise, so that's a shame.
I also didn't know about the recall beyond the progens, so I'll do some digging! Most of my personal woes come from the breeding side since I don't use the Unnamed aesthetic for my clan's lore but I've definitely had issues with memory due to a condition I have. Thanks for the insight!

A possibility that might help for accidental Unnamed exalts, is add a toggle in account settings that would randomize a name for Unnamed exalts. The default option should be off (dragons are exalted Unnamed) as that will have less strain on servers than randomizing a name before exalting (which would require randomizing a name, updating the name field and then exalting). It won’t help in case of other people exalting dragons they buy Unnamed from the player with the toggle on but it would help that player prevent accidentally exalting Unnamed themselves

DragonSage You know, that would be very swell. I've seen the arguments against a blanket "dragon must be named" option and completely understand, but man, the ability to toggle that option would be so nice for those of us who don't use the aesthetic but have disabilities that make naming stuff in advance a risky business. ;o;
I'm deffo a huge fan of option toggles instead of blanket roll-outs, so I guess I'm just hoping there will eventually be some solution that helps everyone.

I wouldn't mind a toggle for players who dislike unnamed and want to use it for their own dragons.
I personally don't like Unnamed in my offspring lists, but then again I don't like a lot of names in my offspring lists, which is why I don't really want unnamed singled out.
Unnamed can be easy to prevent from showing up on offspring lists, because once a dragon is named, it can't be renamed to 'Unnamed', so that dragon will have some sort of name forever. However, for those who have other names they would prefer to not see on their offspring lists (WingWing, cute names, fandom names, names that might bring back personal trauma etc..) have no recourse except to not sell those dragons, because they can always be renamed.
That is also why I would prefer a fully customizable offspring list rather than one I can only filter one name out. It means that I can only filter out unnamed, which I already prevent from showing up by naming all dragons I sell, but not other names I might find offputting.
I just think singling out one single word could be more damaging than helpful. It would make that particular word seem bad, so new players would get the idea that Unnamed is something that shouldn't be allowed to be used for dragons beyond the initial hatching.
However, I do understand where you are coming from, and do support a randomizer for exalting, so players who exalt their own dragons can make sure they odn't have to worry about exalting unnamed, and I also support a customizable offspring list, either being able to hide certain names or give them nicknames in your own dragons' profiles.

DragonSage Aaa thank you!! It's too bad that it's only every 90 days as it doesn't make it a perfect solution for accessibility, but I imagine that's a server load thing and it's still really nice that it exists. ;w;
