I think it had something to do with the code base and how images were displayed and that they planned on adding it at some point after the refactor?)

you're correct. until the refactor is complete, parts of the site are literally coded differently than others and are very outdated. once everything is standardized on the modern code, then they'll have to start addressing assets that were not created with dark mode in mind at the time the site was created (back when they were in develop, dark mode was not a thing on the internet outside of niche spaces, so it was not common for image-heavy sites to produce assets that account for a dark palette swap. if they don't 'fix' the image assets (which will have to be done by hand), what we'll get is a dark-colored content block with glaringly bright images that would potentially be even more disorienting since at least now it's light-on-light.
they have said that's why they can't begin development on it right now but that (iirc) they're not opposed to the addition. so we could very well get one, but it's not going to happen any time soon.

@nerk2486 -- it's kind of considered poor forum etiquette to search up and bump every single version of a thread you can find. it spams up the first page and also scatters discussion on the topic across 4-5 threads instead of one central one, which actually makes it harder for the staff to watch how the discussion goes.

cantrip Apologies! I saw another post where they listed all the dark mode posts and suggested bumping them. I didn't mean to be rude, just wanted to throw my vote in. *^^;;;;

oh gosh
yeah anyone giving the advice 'spam the boards so the staff have to look at this' is not giving you a good suggestion, and is in fact risking mod action being taken against your account! it's telling if someone says 'go do this' but then won't/conveniently doesn't do it themselves.
suggestions is also not a 'polling' board -- basically, even if a thread gets 20 pages of support, if the staff don't have the means to do it or don't feel it would work for the site, they won't. so the number of posts / votes doesn't matter. what they look for is in-depth discussion -- ex. the silhouette scroll came about because eventually all of the userbase's back and forth about how to handle changing a dragon's sex or pose resulted in the groundwork for a feature they could implement.

Uh ohh.. I didnt realize at first when I joined that it was against the rules to use a dark extension on your browser. [ NOTE TO SELF READ RULES DUH ] I nearly got myself banned LOL but hopefully we can get a dark theme in the future. I've been looking around the forums to bump these threads, hope that's ok too. It seems like a lot of players get headaches and eye-strain. I'm one of them and I'd love to keep FR open more often but I find myself closing it or tabbing away.

support for dark mode and also maybe site skins like other sites have

I really want this, but as I had forced dark mode on this site before, the amount of non-transparent png's is alarming. And very bright.

dustydew its not against rules tho. i cant find the post because the search feature is nightmare to use and i cannot remember which staff member said it, but basically purely cosmetic extensions to aid the accessibility of the site such as dark mode extensions are fine.
and as it was stated earlier in this thread, its already one of the planned future features.
