What if dragons left something personal behind as well as gems and gold? Like Pearlcatchers leave a shard of their pearl or something? Or Coatl Dragons left you a feather of their respective color? It would be a cool concept to remember old dragons by.

This doesn't make much sense, when dragons are exalted they go to serve the deity of your flight.
A pearlcatcher would have to break their pearl to give a shard, which doesn't make sense.

•What would other breeds give? Like wildclaws, imps, and snappers? They don't have anything to give, so what would they leave behind?

•Not to mention, what would be the point? You'd have a piece of a dragon that you'll forget about in a month.

•And what about the people who exalt for profit? They'd get a bunch of useless junk that just takes up space in their hoard.

Too many unanswered questions and negative correlations to support.

If there was a purpose for these items, I could get behind it. Like, you collect X number of Mirror items, and you can buy a special Mirror accent or something. But if they don't do anything, I don't see the point.

I don't think dragons should leave behind bodyparts. A feather or a strand of hair would ne okay. But as said many breeds don't have anything but their skin and thus nothing to give without harm.

While I could see these items being used for baldwin to give a special "dragon essence" when transmuted or being used in special recipies the problem with what each breed would give still stands.

Breeds that would need a "save" material they shed are:

Mirrors
Faes
Guardians
Spirals
Snappers
Ridgbacks
Bogsneaks
Nocturnes
Wildclaws

I like the idea in a way that encourage exalting, aka removing dragons from circulation, hence relieve the server stress further and boost economy. And it does make sense lore wise that they leave something behind for their closest to remember them with. The items they left behind should be 'valuable' to them but not necessarily body parts...

I'll have to think more about what each species leave behind, but even a song, a poem, a piece of clothing or their lucky stone shard would work.

edit:
Forgot to say I support Ismaiel's idea of using them to make special ingredients in Baldwin's brew. This way it doesn't matter what breed you exalt, since they will be under the same category.

If they could be used to obtain special items from swipp or baldwin, it would be another incentive to exalt dragons!

Onthe topic of what dragons would leave behind, maybe stuff like moulted feathers, hair, scales or old teeth (assuming FR dragons shed and grow new teeth) would work so that there's something every breed could drop.

Maybe not special items but dragons do keep hoards of things -- maybe an occasional random item drop (think like pinkerton) would be okay, and maybe different breeds have a different 'pool' of items they drop. These could be like swipp-required stuff, and drop as rare as gems do. I feel like it might be another incentive to exalt dragons.

So kinda support?

It would be really interesting, maybe the scales/feathers/teeth/broken claws/egg shards/spines (not bones, like chitin) could end up being different colors. Not as varied as the expanded color wheel, but like the color wheel they teach in art class. ROYGBIV. Collect a set, and trade them at Swipps for some neat apparel or be able to brew something like the glowing clawtips at Baldwins? With each breed able to drop different things, and you need enough of the same type of drop in the same color to make the cool new thing.

I can see it taking a while to draw up and implement, but it could end up really fun!

Also- everyone's lore is different, people treat exalting differently. If they don't want to keep the new drops, they can hoardsell or put them on the AH. Everyone's always talking about how removing dragons from the system is a good thing. Besides, even if it isn't useful yet, I know my hoard is full of chewed up boots and magnetite and coarse tail hairs and rich iron ores that don't do anything, and don't hurt anything either.

Can you imagine RP-ing with some of this stuff? A devout dragon leaving to serve the gods, and leaves a scale on a chain for their mate/hatchlings. A dragon leaves mysteriously in the night, nothing but a shed feather in their nest in the morning, never to be seen again. Dragons fall while battling beastclan, and there isn't enough time for a proper funeral so they take a tooth to remember their fallen comrade. Technically you can put this stuff in a bio, but having items in hand is satisfying or item images/tooltips can make things more aesthetically pleasing.

It'd be pretty pointless to collect these unless they were useful in way, be it Swipp trades or Baldwin material. Otherwise, they'd just take up hoard space. Also, like Ismaiel said, what would other dragons give? I get that maybe Imps could give a lock of their mane and Wildclaws a feather from their crest, but there's nothing else any of the dragon breeds could give. Tbh, I think the idea of giving treasure / gems is better than giving a feather / mane / pearl / scale fragment. I mean, think about it, dragons hoard things that are important to them, and in legend, dragon usually hoard cash. When a dragon goes away and they give you their hoard (though i'll admit, dragons personal hoards in FR are pretty small), something they were collecting, that's a big deal. I feel like it means a lot more than giving a feather or lock of mane. Also, I just wanna point out a problem with the idea of PC's giving away a chunk of their pearl, aren't pearls meant to be their memories? Extract from the Encyclopedia:
Each new layer added to their pearl is believed to be the essence of what they've recently experienced, a memory made tangible and added to the whole of who they are.
I can't imagine a PC would willingly want to chip off a piece of their pearl and give it to you.

I like this idea quite a lot, so I made a few breed-related suggestions and their associated flavour text for better context:

Fae amber "Golden sap that cures to a stone-like consistency. Great for patching holes, and on toast."

Mirror hunting present "One last 'gift' for your clan's larder. How... thoughtful?"

Guardian shield token "A piece of scrimshaw carved while keeping watch. It makes you feel safer somehow."

Tundra bouquet "A lovely floral arrangement, or a delicious salad?"

Spiral jokebook "This whole thing is full of doodles! Just 'doodle doodle doodle' over and over again."

Pearlcatcher keepsake "A braided lock of the dragon's mane, tied with a silk ribbon. I'm not crying, you're crying!"

Ridgeback carving "A molted spine, carved in the likeness of a shark. Whether it was made or 'borrowed' is anyone's guess."

Snapper geode "A favourite rock, split open to reveal the treasure within. The outside has been worn smooth."

Bogsneak mutagen "A flask of dubious liquid. Maybe you should see what Baldwin can make of it?"

Skydancer pendant "A necklace made of feathers and strung together with vines. As delicate as it is pretty."

Imperial seal "The wax insignia of an Imperial dragon. Highly personal and steeped in meaning - assuming you can understand it."

Nocturne diary "A notebook containing observations on clanmates. Not all of them are especially flattering."

Wildclaw trophy "The tooth of a mighty beast, claimed in victory. It seemed mighty at the time anyways."

Coatl pinion "A huge, stiff feather perfect for making ink quills or fancy hats."
