((gonna ignore August for now))
"Um, hi," she replied, somewhat unsure of what else to say. Now that she could see them more clearly, she knew they weren't in her house. It surprised her quite a bit, especially because of her own house. Every other interaction she'd had with other houses hadn't always been bad, but they'd been awkward. This would probably be the same way. Swallowing slightly, she shook the boy's offered hand. When he reintroduced him and his sister much more formally she bit the inside of her cheek to keep from smiling. She didn't want to fall into a false sense of security and then wind up making a fool of herself.
"I, um, was just wandering around and trying to find something else. I didn't realize that the kitchen was here," she lied, trying not to wince. She never liked lying, not even to strangers. But she was beginning to feel like she was in the spotlight, as many of the elves had stopped moving around to watch the interaction. "I don't want to interrupt whatever you guys are doing. I'll get going now. I've got classes tomorrow." Tess turned around stiffly and left, shutting the portrait door behind her. She knew her face had been a bright red the whole time and she covered her face with her hands. A groan escaped her lips and she slid down the wall, sitting on the cold floor. "Why can't you just be friends with friendly people Tess?" she asked herself, though knowing there was no answer.
